Six-year olds look at things in the world a bit differently than those of us who lovingly embellish our quilts and our quilt labels!

Do you remember my Strip Twist Quilt – Bonnie K. Hunter’s Super Bowl Challenge 2009?

You may also remember that Grandangel Cooper claimed it for his bed after his parents painted his room blue!

However, the beautiful quilt became transformed when Cooper decided that he HAD to have the BACK SIDE UP because he LOVED THE LABEL!

So – tonight – before Cooper went to sleep he twisted the control knobs (we quilters refer to these KNOBS as YO YOs) and he carefully touched the buttons in a specific order and then announced to his sisters, “There, I have set my bed to self-destruct!”

That, my friends, is the basic difference between a six-year-old male child and a quilter. I am cracking up for real! lol

My PEPTO CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO QUILT now has borders and is with my long arm quilter Sara – complete with a little label!!!!! I really like the border fabric that Susan picked out…..hot pink! I got the pattern from Augusta Cole’s CUTTING BEE in January but the fabric was all from my stash – I have been collecting pinks for awhile……and there is barely a dent in my pink fabric.

And Finally I did some creative work on my label – two YO YO’s and three buttons GLUED ON WITH FABRI-TAC covered the holes left by the basting stitches. Thanks to my VA SCRAPPER friends for coming up with this solution!!!

Virginia Scrappers June 2009 – Small but Mighty

Carmen, Patsy, Darlene and the crazy photo lady – me – sao – had a grand time Saturday sewing, chatting, eating, laughing, and sharing show and tells for our June monthly Virginia Scrappers gathering. I really had a productive, relaxing, good time. It was a small – but mighty good group!

Carmen gave a lesson on y-seam hand sewing and she and Patsy made some “GOOD THINGS.” I worked on the binding for my Bonnie K. Hunter STRIP TWIST SUPER BOWL CHALLENGE 2009 QUILT! It is FINISHED. It has a label! YEAH!

Enjoy the pictures…..the ones of Carmen are dark – guess I was shooting into the light! Take it from me – she looked great – loved her braided hair!

Strip Twist Quiltville Super Bowl Challenge 2009

WHOPEEE – today I got my Strip Twist top and back ready to be quilted. This was Bonnie K. Hunter’s Quiltville Super Bowl 2009 Challenge – and I finally took some time today to get it ready for the last step. I did it in shades of blue – with some other colors thrown in – a little red (I seem to be developing a theme – some people call it a color rut – I call it a theme!!! :)

LOOK – what do you think? I added a small border and some piano keys for an additional border. I think I like it!!! I thought that this was going to be a charity quilt, but I have some fabric in here that was left over from making Leanna’s 4th grade colonial day costume – so I think I am going to have to keep this one!

And true to the Bonnie K. Hunter style, I did not make a boring back. Here it is!

Yes, I sewed all of those 2 1/2″ strips together for the sides of the backing. It took me most of the day – but the back makes me smile. I like quilts that make you smile when you look at them!

sao’s Quilty Stuff Report for the Week

I worked here and there on several UFO projects – my token obligatory salute to maintaining my progress toward completion!

I also finished my Bonnie K. Hunter Super Bowl Strip Twist 09 Challenge – I just finished the top – it still needs borders. It is still small too because I never did find the other COMPLETE TWO ROWS OF BLOCKS THAT I MADE. Now where oh where could they be? I am going to wait awhile before adding the borders in case the other two rows of blocks materialize (no pun intended!) If they don’t show up – then this will be a crib quilt! LOL!

Today is a BIG DAY for football and SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL fans alike…….and then there are folks who add QUILTING to the mix of anticipated happenings for today.

Bonnie K. Hunter’s FANS are doing the Super Bowl Twist – either making her Strip Twist Quilt or another one of Bonnie’s patterns in mostly blue fabrics. I am making the STRIP TWIST!
