FIRST SONIC FIRST CHERRY LIMEADE FIRST FABRIC YARD SALE

Posted By on February 21, 2010

Wednesday and Friday, Catherine and I ventured out to a yard sale – actually it was only CALLED A YARD SALE but it was held inside Debbie’s sewing room.  She was liquidating her mother’s stash – and it was a huge stash.  Everything went for $3.00 a yard.  It was pretty impressive!!!.  I didn’t take my camera inside either time, but I never saw a stash that large!  I thought that I had a lot of fabric – but I have nothing like what I saw.

Look at my STUFF!!!

BAG OF SCRAPS for $1.75

Buttons, YoYos and assorted Pieces of Fabric

I got a GAZILLION YoYos for $2.00.  I don’t know what I will do with them but I felt like her mom’s work should end up somewhere special!  I am thinking about a quilt project!

I REALLY ENJOYED going to SONIC and having  a Cherry Limeade – it was my first and I thought that it was really good – we enjoyed it so much that Catherine and I went again on Friday and had a SMOOTHIE.  I have been craving a STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE ever since.  I took pictures – yes – and I especially liked the part where Catherine’s CAR MIRROR kissed the trash can.  LOL!

Look at the ICE CREAM MENU!!!

Virginia Scrappers

Posted By on February 21, 2010

We had fun at  our monthly gathering of Virginia Scrappers.  Catherine was working on her curved log cabin project – she is making a wonderful tote bag and I won’t be taking a picture until it is all finished!

Joy won best hand quilting, best applique, and best of SHOW at Quilting Adventure – it might be the Little Women group – I guess I had better sharpen up on my REPORTING SKILLS….anyway her miniature quilt is really nice.

Patsy was working on counted cross stitch – a beautiful ADAM AND EVE sampler.  She is enjoying her new job; however getting used to the 3rd shift hours is challening.

I did something amazing – I sewed on 44 – yes forty- four – buttons on my Main Street Houses quilt.  I covered all the little berries as well as the flower centers.  AND….I got the binding put on.  YEAH!  I thought it was quite amazing.

Catherine and I stayed until 5:30  – getting in our LAST HURRAH of fun!

I hope you enjoy the pictures!!!

sao QUILTY THINGS

Posted By on February 14, 2010

OK – so I have been THINKING about sewing on bindings…….I have the bindings sewn to the quilts – and now the hand work – MY FAVORITE THING TO DO.  I hid the STACK of quilts ready to bind in a chair in my closet……this is now my BINDING CHAIR……but OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND is not working.  I LOVE TO BIND I LOVE TO BIND I LOVE TO BIND.  Ok – so soon I will begin working on this stack; but for now I will be HAPPY that I have them ready!

Quilts Ready to bind

I got the back ready for my Superbowl Stashbuster quilt  – the picture is the top of the  RIBBON WEAVE QUILT  (one of Augusta Cole’s Cutting Bee patterns) made from fabric from the last two Cutting Bees……now I need to make a label……

The Ribbon Weave

And the BIGGEST accomplishment is that I finished my Grandmother’s Flower Garden top.  I was planning to hand quilt it but now that I have the top made I really don’t love it and therefore I think I am going to have it machine quilted.  I can’t see spending 3 years quilting something that I really am not crazy about.  I think part of the problem is that I don’t know how to end it – maybe I would be happy with inner and outer borders but I am not sure I want to cut off the hexagon points.  I know I don’t want to hand sew them down onto a border…..so I am going to hide this in the closet and do a SCARLETT OHARA THING…I will think about it TOMORROW.  For now, it is a closet quilt!  ANY IDEAS ANYONE?  Right now I plan to cut off the points – square it up and have it machine quilted – but I am going to THINK FOR AWHILE before making any moves that I will regret later.

AND I made my DH, Max, a pillowcase for Valentine’s Day.  He really likes it.

The Valentine Pillowcase

I am having lots of fun making Curved Log Cabin blocks – stay tuned…… 11 made, need 120……I think that I will WAIT and THINK about that math tomorrow.  🙂

Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild and AUGUSTA COLE at our February 2010 Meeting

Posted By on February 14, 2010

Saturday I actually drove in the snow – a beautiful light snowfall in Powhatan, VA.  I was BENT on making it to my Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild meeting in Powhatan.  I could not face missing one more thing because of the snow and I HAD TO MAKE THIS MEETING BECAUSE THE GREAT AUGUSTA COLE was coming to present a TRUNK SHOW and a CURVED LOG CABIN QUILT WORKSHOP….and I am happy to say I made it and I had a great time!  The snow stopped falling by noon and the sun actually came out.  It was a beautiful day – beginning with snow and ending with a gorgeous sunset – and there was lots of fun in between the beginning and the end.

We had breakfast goodies to eat and personalized box lunches later…… and it was so much fun to see everyone wearing their pink and red VALENTINE’S DAY apparel…..me?  I wore black but what else is new!?    I did wear a silver heart necklace.  🙂  Merci wore a brand new ONE DAY EARLY VALENTINE DIAMOND RING.  Catherine wore another of her creative original art pieces – both a gorgeous necklace and bracelet too!  How does Catherine come up with all of these works of art!  She has endless ideas that just pop into her head!!!      Sara had on one of my favorite pincushions of all time – a button valentine necklace pincushion…..FANTASTIC!  I enjoyed the food, the fashion show, the quilt show – the class – what was there NOT TO LIKE!

We had a wonderful treat – Augusta Cole brought quilts to show – and it was a fantastic quilt show.  I had no idea that she did such fine hand quilting.  I am inspired, to say the least!  I not only enjoyed seeing all of the quilts, but I enjoyed hearing the stories that went with each quilt.  Our quilts become our personal history – a parade of events and people are embodied in our stitches.    I took lots of pictures!!

After the meeting we had the most wonderful class taught by Augusta Cole.  We had the cutest box lunch (with our names on the boxes) and then  we learned to make a curved log cabin quilt.  I always have fun when Augusta teaches a class because she is so much fun to be with – and I learn so much from her.  For one thing, she is teaching me to be careful and precise when I sew…..there goes my GALLOPING HORSE philosophy (if you can’t see a stitch out of place from a galloping horse then it doesn’t matter!  I don’t even know WHY I developed this philosophy because I don’t have a horse and I haven’t seen many friends galloping by either! )

Well, I have to say that I love the little log cabin blocks (and I MEAN LITTLE) – the tiny little blocks are made from 1  1/2 inch dark strips and ONE INCH light strips…..they are really cute and I can’t wait to see them all finished!!!  I wonderful how many of the 18 people who started this quilt on Saturday will finish.  I think I will finish – and Sheddy will because she can already visualize her 30’s curved log cabin quilt as a table runner holding a  pot of spring tulips!

Enjoy the pictures!!!

MEMORIES GALORE AND MY NEW YEAR’S GOALS

Posted By on February 14, 2010

My 2010 goals included  a promise to do more SCRAPBOOKING (I am hopelessly BEHIND on my photo books) and so Friday night I spent 6 pm to midnight fulfilling part of my 2010 PROMISE at Memories Galore for a CROP AND SHOP.  It was fun because Catherine was there too – always lots of giggles and inspiration when Catherine is around……she was working on some of the most precious fabric postcards that I have ever seen (and she wore cool socks too!)  I worked on Grandangel’s Williams photo book.  YEAH!

AND THE BEST PART – we didn’t get more snow – and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE snow, but it is time to move on……..and I don’t drive in the snow if I can help it.  🙂

AND…..I did take a COUPLE of pictures.   I was pretty impressed with Catherine’s necklace – she made it from an antique gaming piece that John gave her…..and the dial really turns.

Catherine made this necklace from an antique gaming piece

Look at these postcards that Catherine is making ….wonderful colors, paper, fabrics, trims, bling, just wondrous works of art to make you smile!

Some of Catherine's Postcards in progress

Look at these stamps – pretty impressive, wouldn’t you say!

Catherine bought ANTIQUE STAMPS to put on the postcards!

I sort of wish I would have taken a picture of the room – so FULL of people and their tools and ribbons and projects…..it was CREATIVITY HAPPENING….but I really didn’t know any of the people there so I hated to be intrusive with my camera….but I did take a picture of Catherine and my feet having fun at the Crop!  Well, our feet weren’t actually having fun – but it is a picture of US having fun and our feet are representative.  WHY THIS PICTURE?  Well, Catherine’s foot is in a brace and my big toe is broken – and this picture represents PERSERVERANCE……we were NOT going to let our feet keep us from having fun!

OK - so yes, there is a picture of me (the black shoe)

Aren’t these cute socks!  LOVE THEM!  They just make you happy!

Catherine has VALENTINE SOCKS!
