Everything’s Up to Date in Kansas City

Posted By on January 6, 2010

Yep – I spent part of my Christmas vacation helping my parents and my brother and SIL  Fred and Elaine move into NEW side-by-side houses!

We did it in the snow and often single digit weather……now SNOW is one of my favorite things……

The Snow in Kansas City at my parents' old home

Despite the fact that the MOVERS cancelled 10 minutes before moving time – YES REALLY (because of the snow) – my brother, Jim, got a substitute mover at the last minute and my parents moved through all of this and were  in good spirits!  Here they are eating a gourmet lunch on a makeshift table DURING THE MOVE!!

We made it to the NEW HOUSE!  It is beautiful and so much fun to have everything new and spacious!

My brother (Fred)  SIL Elaine,  and nephews, Eric and Joey, moved in next door.  Here is Fred carrying Elaine over the threshold – they are celebrating their 31st Anniversary today – January 6!

Happy 31st Anniversary, Fred and Elaine!

It was actually kind of exciting moving in the snow at night…..but not the part when the moving truck actually  got stuck in the snow.  🙂

Beautiful Night Snow.....

There was one other thing that wasn’t THEORETICALLY that exciting and I probably wouldn’t have been able to watch (except I had to take pictures!)  Here is nephew Joey and three friends HOISTING A HEAVY SOFA over a railing to take downstairs!!!

They made it - but it was scary!

I think that my brother, Dan, might not have  labeled the digging in the snow for the mailbox post exciting – but hey, we did make memories, didn’t we?

A Totally Catherine Day

Posted By on December 24, 2009

The day started out in a rather humorous way – Catherine and I met at Quilter’s Corner to start our big day  – BIG CHRISTMAS FABRIC SALE AT QUILTER’S CORNER (GO THERE!!!) – but we were parked on OPPOSITE sides of the building and didn’t see each other.  Once I went inside I discovered that Catherine was safe and sound – and happily shopping!  LOL.

After we shopped at Quilter’s Corner we journeyed on our TOTALLY CATHERINE DAY and had so much fun – went to see Catherine’s class samples at the new Quilting Adventures……then we went to Ben Franklin, Max and Ermas, a wonderful TEA HOUSE – Huckleberries , and the BIG GREENHOUSE.  I bought Max a chicken wire basket for a Christmas present at the Big Greenhouse  and Catherine entertained me by making a fabulous bow.  I learned a lot – who know it took TWO YARDS of ribbon to make a bow – but it is a wonderful wonderful bow.  It took Catherine only seconds to make that bow – PERFECT BOW…….very impressive.

Max and Ermas is now officially on my LIST OF FAVORITE THINGS.  My lunch was so good that I had it half eaten before I remembered to take a picture!  They have a wonderful bathtub full of ice cream and toppings…….looked so yummy but was too full to have ice cream…..next time I SKIP THE LUNCH and go for the ice cream!  But, it was really cute and the bathrooms are even maked ERMA and MAX.

We went to Huckleberries where I wanted to buy everything in there – but didn’t.  They had furniture, antique quilts, lamps, candles – wonderful.  I am sad that they are closing Dec. 29 – but if you are in the area GO THERE – it is by the BIG GREENHOUSE.

After our TOTALLY CATHERINE DAY I shopped at UKrops, got a haircut and went to a neighborhood caroling party.  Now is that a day or what?    TOO MUCH FUN!  (I didn’t take my camera caroling but I hope you enjoy the pictures of the fun that Catherine and I had.)

COULD NOT RESIST – MORE FAMILY SNOW PICTURES

If you aren’t family, this might not be interesting…..but I couldn’t resist posting these FUN IN THE SNOW PICTURES!!!  Snow is just the BEST THING!  Yesterday was perfect – lots of snow, but it wasn’t that cold!  GO FIGURE!

Yes, we do have a SNOWMAN with a carrot nose – I forgot to tell them to use a pickle ALA Sheddy.  I love her story of always putting pickles on her snowmen for the nose.

And what better way to end the day than to build a snow igloo.   The kids could actually crawl inside!
CAN YOU SEE WHY SNOW IS ON MY LIST OF FAVORITE THINGS?

But now there is a time and place for EVERYTHING…… my parents and my brother and SIL need to MOVE – so I am praying for  GOOD WEATHER for the moving process!

Celebrating Snow

Posted By on December 19, 2009

As most of my friends know, rain and snow are my FAVORITE KINDS OF WEATHER…….why is that?  It just makes me feel cozy, I guess!  It has been a long time since we have had a WHITE CHRISTMAS – maybe this will be the year; although I have my doubts that it will last!

My friend, Kay, in sunny Australia – who is probably sipping mint juleps and basking in the sun – asked for pictures of our snow……      So here are some SNOW  pictures – Midlothian, VA.  AND – IT IS SNOWING AGAIN RIGHT NOW!!!!!

Sit and Stitch at QC – Christmas Party Fun – and SNOW IN MIDLOTHIAN, VA 12 18 09

Posted By on December 18, 2009

Was it just me, or was our show and tell today more festive than usual?  It must be that Christmas is in the air and we had lots of SUGAR on the table (that always makes ALL QUILTS look wonderful….:):)

We really had a feast.  I think I could have curled up with those cakes and hibernated for the winter…..Cathy’s rum cake and Patsy’s lemon cakes were just fabulous……and I have to try to replicate Sheddy’s chicken cheese dip……and Susan’s chocolate toffee almond crunch…..oh my……sweet memories!

Besides show and tell, eating and laughing, Catherine gave us all Christmas prizes……needles, pin cushions or baby scissors depending on if we turned out to be an A, B, or C person  – that was SO SO SO NICE – and we enjoyed watching her make a potholder – yes – a loopy potholder – and as we watched, some of us relived our days of being BROWNIES!!!

And it has been a LONG TIME since I was a Brownie….oh my…..I never thought I would be saying this – but it has been MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY…….good grief – this is an occasion to eat chocolate!!!!!  🙂

Here are some pictures of us having fun at Sit and Stitch – Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, VA.   Many of us left early — in anticipation of the predicted snow storm – and YES – it is SNOWING as we speak!!!!  I included a few grandangels in the snow pictures……BEAUTIFUL SNOW!
