Two New Mystery Quilts are in My Future….

CAROLINA CHRISTMAS

Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville.com  is hosting another mystery quilt to begin the day after Thanksgiving  – CAROLINA CHRISTMAS!  I have made all of Bonnie’s Mystery Quilts and am looking forward to this one.   I THINK that I am making mine with scrappy reds, scrappy greens, scrappy lights and off whites and  one gold and black print to tie it all together.  Here is what I have picked out – but I might change my mind too…..you never know about me!  If you want to follow along check out Bonnie Hunter’s website at www.quiltville.com.  She already has posted the fabric requirements – which is 2 yards of each of the four colors that you choose for the quilt.

ANN SMITH NYE MYSTERY 2009

And……Ann Smith is hosting another NEW YEAR’S EVE MYSTERY on the Fabricaholics Online Chat Group…..I need a focus fabric, a light, a dark, and two medium fabrics.  This is what I have picked out so far…..the butterfly fabric is the focus and the orange and blue are the medium fabrics – the black is the dark.  This will be a baby crib quilt.

And here it is FINISHED – my friend and master embellish artist, Catherine,  completed the quilt with appliqued hearts.  It was a gift to our friend Karen who underwent two brain surgeries!  (Marla and Catherine are holding the quilt!)

Thimbleberries 3’s Company 2009

My major accomplishment was getting my Thimbleberries 2009 quilt top and back together…..and mine isn’t like the planned top.  I just had a STRONG URGE to do my own thing – so this is how I put mine together!!!

Here is the back of it…..and I surprised myself for getting ambitious and for making the binding before it came back quilted!!!!

Happy Birthday Shirley Anne 5

Shirley Anne 4

Shirley Anne

Many moons ago, Grandangel Harry (who is now 14) started signing his name with his age right after it……so it has become a family tradition like saying “MEROTE” instead of “REMOTE” (thanks to Leanna) and another Harry contribution resulted in ALL of us now saying “KEEP ME FAMILY” instead of “KEEP ME COMPANY!”

SO – today Shirley Anne became Shirley Anne 5 – HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHIRLEY ANNE!

MAYBE SHE’S BORN WITH IT – MAYBELLINE

My Favorite NON Waterproof

My Favorite NON Waterproof

I KNOW, I KNOW – what does Maybelline have to do with QUILTING, FAMILY, or GRANDANGELS?  Well, I don’t know but I just felt the need to sprout some dendrites!
Because I was NOT BORN WITH IT – as I was putting my makeup on this morning I couldn’t help but notice that I had TONS of tubes of mascara……Clinique, L’Oreal, Revlon, HERBALS from special makeup outlets, Bare Escentuals, Philosophy, Estee Lauder, Physicians Formula……I AM NOT KIDDING.
Why, I asked myself?  I love Maybelline mascara and always have – so why the continual search for the BEST product?  Time and time again I have found that the higher-end higher priced products do not necessarily substantiate the old adage that “you get what you pay for!”
I realized that, in the back of my mind, that I was trying to replace an inexpensive drug store item (Maybelline) for something of “value.”  But with every attempt at higher end (in my mind) products I kept returning to Maybelline.  All along I had the BEST VALUE right in my make-up bag!!!
So, as of today – I am making a public stand – I LOVE MAYBELLINE GREAT LASH – my search has ended.  I will stray no more.  🙂
MY FAVORITE - WATERPROOF

MY FAVORITE - WATERPROOF

Why did I post this?  I have no clue…..but I thought I would throw in a little history lesson – with the help of Google and Maybelline.com here is a little HISTORY LESSON.
MAYBELLINE HISTORY
T.L. Williams founded The MAYBELLINE Company in 1915 and introduced MAYBELLINE Cake Mascara in 1917 as the first modern eye cosmetic to be produced for everyday use. The firm and brand name MAYBELLINE was adopted in honour of his oldest sister, Mabel, from whom he originally received the idea of producing an easy-to-use product to darken the eyelashes which could be sold commercially. MAYBELLINE now operates as a separate division within L’Oréal USA, Inc.Cake mascara was originally advertised and sold exclusively by mail. It was received so well by the general public that women started asking for it in drug stores. The MAYBELLINE success story didn’t really start until mascara first appeared in the nation’s variety stores. In September 1932, a special 10-cent package of MAYBELLINE mascara was designed for sale in these stores. The subsequent success of this product has become legend.

MAYBELLINE eyebrow pencils came along a few years later. Eyebrow pencils were the natural follow-up to the solid mascara as the company’s second eye cosmetic. Eye shadows of various shades were added in the 1920’s and have increased in popularity and general usage year after year.

MAYBELLINE introduced Ultra Lash Mascara, a waterproof product, in the early 1960’s. A true breakthrough, Ultra Lash was the first mass market automatic mascara, which means the mascara is applied directly to the brush in the tube. Then in 1971, Great Lash, a water-based mascara, was introduced. With a truly legendary history, it is still the number-one best selling mascara in the marketplace. Today, a Great Lash mascara crosses a drugstore scanner every 1.5 seconds. Its winning formula is closely guarded and its hip appeal is undeniable. A makeup artist’s staple, this mascara is always in plain sight backstage at fashion shows. MAYBELLINE currently offers 13 mascara formulas ranging from high tech to high fashion.

New entries to the MAYBELLINE line have consistently made headlines. In the 1970’s, MAYBELLINE successfully branched into other cosmetic categories – face, lip and nail. In 1983, Shine Free, an oil-control makeup line featuring non-comedogenic formulas, was introduced. Shine Free was one of the first lines designed expressly for women with oily skin and is still an important category for the company today. Skin looks fresh and natural all day while keeping oil under control.
In 1991, another MAYBELLINE milestone – the “Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s MAYBELLINE” advertising tagline was created. It continues to be a great success for the brand today and is recognized around the world.

In February, 1996, MAYBELLINE was purchased by L’Oréal USA, Inc. and the company headquarters were subsequently moved to New York City.

MISC MUSINGS

Sara – my friend and long arm quilter – has the most wonderful quilting cottage and I just love to go there.  She has it decorated so cute for fall and  I wanted to share my photos of the “warmth and hospitality!”

When I was last there Sara had just finished her Bonnie K. Hunter design – CHRISTMAS LIGHTS – isn’t it cute!  I love the border and backing fabrics (aren’t the Scotties darling) that Sara used!  GOOD JOB SARA!  Sara is the one who inspired me to put labels on my quilts.

MY GRATITUDE POST
Here are birthday presents that just arrived from SHAKER VILLAGE.  I used birthday money to buy this hand made Shaker Tote and Shaker Pin Cushion (I got them on my New England Quilt Tour) and they were just shipped to me – so I felt like I was having my birthday all over again!  YEAH!

And speaking of birthdays – grandangel Sarah just had her 10 year old slumber birthday party Saturday night.  There is nothing quite so joyful as listening to the giggles of young people having fun.  It just gladdens the heart!  I know they had a LOT of fun too because the GIGGLES WERE LOUD!!!  🙂
