Virginia Scrappers September 2009

Posted By on September 29, 2009

I believe that there were  more giggles in the VA SCRAPPERS group Saturday than I can ever remember.   I certainly got my laughing muscles exercised.  It was a quip a minute!  Just when I was catching my breath someone else would add something funny and off we went again.   We ALL had merry hearts!!

Joy had us all mesmerized by her rug weaving loom – what a great way to create artistry from scrap fabric!    There were  even rumors of a VIRGINIA RUG SCRAPPERS GROUP forming in the near future!  🙂  There were lots of Oooohings and Aaaahings going on – and Joanne even had an impromptu  mini-garage sale event.  Sheddy and I had fun “SHOPPING”  for books, shirts and wool remnants.  (She was on the way to the GOODWILL!)  It was a GOOD DAY!

Here are some of the pictorial highlights!  I will be posting again mid-October with pictures of the fall foiliage in New England.

Thank you for all of the wonderful phone calls, e-mails, cards and surprises today.  I have had a wonderful birthday.  And now for a little fun…..here I am THEN and NOW…. and a few funny pictures in between!  If you aren’t a family member you will want to SKIP THIS POST!!!

My DD Christi made restaurant quality PENNE for my birthday dinner and I must be slipping because I didn’t take a picture.  That is HOW GOOD IT WAS.  I couldn’t stop eating it long enough to photograph it!

And to relive a wonderful memory with my DD Jan I am going to watch FRIED GREEN TOMATOS TONIGHT.

Isn’t this funny- me in the old fashioned stroller!!  I wish I had it now – I would fill it with fat quarters.

Here I am with my parents – I believe my Grandma Albertson made my baby dress and probably by hand.  I had curly hair – even then!
My Parents and ME!

Yes, does anyone remember that I actually flew 9 stories up in the air – suspended by 2 wires –  at the Crystal Cathedra Christmas and Easter Pageantsl!!!!  HERE I AM FOR REAL!

Miscellaneous Fun at Field Day of the Past, Sept. 20, 2009

Don’t ask me why because I do not have a clue, but for as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with OLD THINGS.  The older, the rustier, the more paint missing, the more scratched, the more primitive, the better.  I like old milk cans, old signs, old buttons, old quilts,  and yes, even old people.  LOL.  I think that it would have been fun to have traveled in a covered wagon and fixed up a little log cabin.  Of course that would mean that I would have had to cook…..sigh.  Maybe I would be a Scarlett O-Hara pioneer woman!!!  LOL.  Or maybe I could be a pioneer woman for just a little while!!!!  🙂

SO, that being said, you will now understand why I took and LOVE these pictures from Field Day of the Past….I love the rust, the old Singer treadle sewing machines, the tractors (hey, I grew up in Kansas City and I am a  city girl who loves horses and  tractors and rusty trucks  and wooden logs!)  Most of all I lOVE  tomato pie and the homemade ice cream  – REAL HOMEMADE ICE CREAM (it is on my list of FAVORITE THINGS) – wish I had some right now!

I hope you enjoy some of my FAVORITE PICTURES from the Field Day of the Past in Goochland, VA!

Animals at Field Day of the Past Sept. 20, 2009

I loved looking at…and taking pictures of the animals at Field Day of the Past in Goochland, VA this past weekend.  If you are not in a “ZOO MOOD” you should skip this post!  🙂

My favorite were the alpacas – especially the babies (eating out of Catherine’s hand while still remaining in the safe shelter of their trailer).  Also take note of the rooster that I caught in the act of CROWING and the turkey that I caught in the act of GOBBLING.  I also accidently caught a goat doing something else – but I deleted that one!

So, if you are in the zoo mood, check out the various dogs, cows, horses, bunnies – yes, and even a couple of pig tails – couldn’t resist!  I love the series of pictures of the horse getting friendly with Catherine.

Taking one giant step back in time at the Field Day of the Past  was a refreshing experience.  The Country Piecemaker’s of Powhatan, VA hosted a quilt sale (Barbara, Sara and the Guild sold some!) and quilt demos Friday through Sunday.  Catherine and I joined the group on Sunday – along with Heidi, Sara and Michelle – to chat with the guests and sell tickets for our raffle quilt.   We had a wonderful little cabin with a wrap around porch as our HOME…..and the weather was A1 perfect!

Here are a few of my pictures of the ‘goings on” in the quilt cabin!  And at the end I added pictures of my birthday basket from Catherine – full of all of my favorite things – and she made me one of her soon-to-be-famous designer pumpkins – love it!

I have Robin’s cards (the artist who made my wonderful hat) should anyone want it – just let me know!
