Sit and Stitch – Quilter’s Corner – Sept. 4, 2009

Posted By on September 4, 2009

We had fun at Quilter’s Corner today at Sit and Stitch.  We even had SPECIAL ENTERTAINMENT…..both Patsy and Joy shared their delightful cell phone” ringing music” – it was like dueling banjos only they were cell phones!

Catherine gave me a ride today and if that were not enough niceness, she gave me LOTS of good ideas for my Williamsburg “Words into Fabric”  Challenge Quilt – I will share a picture when I am finished!  I am excited about it.  Thanks Catherine for the beautiful buttons that you so generously shared with me and for your patient instruction – I LEARNED a lot!!

We also celebrated Sherry’s birthday (tomorrow)  – she brought her own VERY DELICIOUS CARROT CAKE from Ukrops.  Thank you Sherry – it was a lot of fun having a party with you today!  I guess a lot of folks have CARROT CAKE as their FAV – I know that it is mine!!!

I enjoyed the SHOW AND TELLS today – and I have LOTS OF INSPIRATION for the future……..in my spare time…..  I wish I had time to take all of the new classes coming up at QC too.  Check out the website for  dates and times.

Enjoy the pictures and click on each one to see it enlarged!

Hospitality – Richmond Quilt Guild – September 2, 2009

Posted By on September 2, 2009

I ventured out today for the first time since Silver Belle and an unknown trunk collided on Friday.  I am now an official member of this VERY NICE group of quilters.  I was sitting too far back to get pictures of all of the Show and Tells and UFOs and Charity Quilts being shown today, but take my word for it, it was impressive.  I had a very enjoyable time and I am hoping I won’t be disbanded after my first visit.  Sheila tripped over my foot and fell today – can you believe it?  The paramedics from 911 came and everything.    The truck hitting my car, Sheila falling over my foot, and I dropped and broke one of my cameras…..three not so wonderful things…I hope I am not cursed…..

OK – back to having  a  MERRY HEART  and being POSITIVE.  I really enjoyed Debby Kratovil’s NAKED QUILTER Lecture (and yes she wore clothes) and her workshop.  I learned so much and I can hardly wait to sew something.  She had such great ideas for new kinds of borders.  I loved it.    She gave us a hand-out that needs to get plasticized and kept near at hand – where else can you get the benefits of having formulas FROM A MATH TEACHER for cutting setting triangles.

I actually learned a lot – and there may have been more things that I am forgetting to mention.  It was A GOOD DAY….I LOVE LEARNING NEW THINGS.  And I got to have a cute little yellow tomato for lunch – yellow tomatos are on my list of FAVORITE THINGS!

Here are some of the highlights of what I learned NEW!  Sherry told me to take GOOD NOTES – so I did!!

All four borders do not need to have the same fabric

To add a VERY SMALL border (ie 1/4 “)  cut and sew a LARGER one (1 1/2”) and then trim

HSTs can be made by  drawing zigzag lines on a length of fabric sandwich

Four patches and Nine patches LOOK GREAT on opposing border corners

Prairie points can be made in a border and not just on quilt edges

Prairie points can look like a picket fence

Prairie points and YO YO’s make GREAT flowers

Mitered corners can be TOP STITCHED with nylon thread

Binding can look great when using a curved stitch on the top of the quilt

If you take a picture of Alma with her tongue out, you HAVE to delete it!

Hope you enjoy the pictures – I will narrate a bit in the picture section.  Be sure you notice Karen DuMont’s quilt – SASSY FATS – pieced by Alma…..very nice!    Remember to CLICK TWICE on the image to see the ENTIRE PICTURE……
