My Quilt Label Becomes a SELF-DESTRUCT Control Panel

Posted By on July 14, 2009

Six-year olds look at things in the world a bit differently than those of us who lovingly embellish our quilts and our quilt labels!

Do you remember my Strip Twist Quilt – Bonnie K. Hunter’s Super Bowl Challenge 2009?

You may also remember that Grandangel Cooper claimed it for his bed after his parents painted his room blue!

However, the beautiful quilt became transformed when Cooper decided that he HAD to have the BACK SIDE UP because he LOVED THE LABEL!

So – tonight – before Cooper went to sleep he twisted the control knobs (we quilters refer to these KNOBS as  YO YOs) and he carefully touched the buttons in a specific order and then announced to his sisters, “There, I have set my bed to self-destruct!”
That, my friends, is the basic difference between a six-year-old male child and a quilter.  I am cracking up for real!  🙂  lol

Great Swim Meet

Posted By on July 14, 2009

It was so much fun tonight watching Sarah swim tonight in three races – free style, back stroke and breast stroke.  She was second in her heat on the breast stroke – and we were all screaming our heads off (she says she can hear us even under water!)  There is only one more swim meet this season……..I will have to cheer for Sarah  from CA!

I took lots of pictures so you could PRETEND like you were there with us!  It is true that Love Comes in Everyday Moments!  🙂

AND JUST FOR THE RECORD – SARAH’S BUTTERFLY TATTOO IS TEMPORARY!  🙂

FUN WITH CATHERINE

Posted By on July 14, 2009

Let me tell you something – Catherine sure knows how to pack a lot of fun into a very short time!  Can you believe that BEFORE 3 o’clock we had visited the QUILT MAN quilt shop – the SMOKEY PIG restaurant – the ANTIQUE STORE (well, we tried but it was closed for inventory) and MEMORIES GALORE in the West End – every thing in the shop was 20% off – don’t you just love days like this!

The day was wonderful and I am so proud of the bracelet that Catherine made for me – THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

FUN FUN FUN.  I loved the Smokey Pig – it was my first time there…..and they had the best CREAMED SPINACH SOUP EVER!  I was making little yummy groans of appreciation!  The apple fritters dipped in lemon sauce were just to die for – I can not remember what they are really called – but they are not called apple fritters dipped in lemon sauce.

At MEMORIES GALORE in the West End I got my inspiration for the WORD QUILT CHALLENGE hosted by the Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild.  I won’t reveal my idea just yet – but it will be featured later!  🙂

After our shopping and eating adventures we went back to visit Sydney and get puppy kisses.  Finally Catherine taught me her PT exercises- – and yes I took feet pictures!  I HAD TO SO THAT I WOULD REMEMBER WHAT EXERCISES TO DO!  🙂  LOL

TTFN!

THIMBLEBERRIES 2009

Today I finished my July assignment for Thimbleberries Club – I do not know how I could possibly survive without the QUILT IN DAY SQUARE UP RULER!   I use it for everything it seems!  This assignment had MILLIONS of half square triangles so squaring them up was a lifesaver!

BROWN BAG BLOCK PARTY 2009

Country Piecemakers

Now this is what I finished tonight – I am so excited about it.  It is the TOP of the Country Piecemaker’s Brown Bag Project – I named mine Brown Bag Block Party Quilt 2009.  I am going to make the pieced back for it tonight!  🙂

The blocks were made by sao, Barbara, Sandie, Heidi, Donna and Linda……I am really pleased with it!   I have a confession – I really am not that fond of the color teal but I had some fabric left over from the quilt that I made for my brother Fred – he wanted a  teal, brown and gray quilt (Remember Fred’s Boxy Stars Quilt with the t-shirt with pockets for the back?)

And it turns out that I LOVE this quilt -so I should thank my brother, Fred, for the inspiration!  I probably should have SAVED this for next year to be shown at the FINISHED QUILT REVEAL at the guild meeting – but I am not good at keeping my own secrets.  On the other hand, I take pride in and am able to keep other people’s secrets.  🙂

Thimbleberries Club at Quilter’s Corner July 2009

Posted By on July 13, 2009

I went to the Monday meeting of Thimbleberries this month – and we had a great time.  Susan made a wonderful taco salad for our treat.  That is another one of the “FUN” things about Thimbleberry Club – we get recipes each month.

We had lots of beautiful Show and Tells today – wonderful bags – there are classes by Trude coming up soon!!!!  There was one CAT purse that I fell in love with – maybe when I return from my traveling I can find some of that fabric.

Carolyn found a cute bag pattern FREE at TIPNUT.COM….and she made one with a special heat resistant lining for her little travel iron – very clever!

Susan showed us how to make her “NEW FUTURE BEACH HOUSE PILLOW.”  The large rickrack looks like so much fun to work with!

Enjoy the pictures!!!
