Country Piecemaker’s CELEBRATION – July 2009

Posted By on July 12, 2009

I called our monthly gathering of the Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild in Powhatan a CELEBRATION rather than a MEETING.  We had SOOOOOO much fun Saturday.

There were so many highlights of the day!

We had three guests – and ONE of our new members is my neighbor – can you believe it!!!!!  Barbara lives right in my neighborhood and we met for the first time on Saturday.  WHAT FUN!  Welcome to our guild!

Then Catherine came walking in – and YES I SAID WALKING IN.  WOW.  She brought lots of her beautiful new creations – and she gifted us all with darling little heart boxes with embellishment!!  How does she manage to do all of this!?  It was such a feat of strength and determination for Catherine to make it to the meeting.  In the pictures you will see that Donna brought Catherine the DOLL HOUSE that she wanted from the Clothes Closet!  Thank you Donna for being so kind as to pick up that Doll House for Catherine!!!!  I hope your cat will survive it being gone!

And…..that is not all.  Our IF I WERE A CHALLENGE QUILTS were on display at the Powhatan Library and it was SUCH FUN to see our quilts hanging!  They go to the Goochland Library in August. It was really lots of fun to see them all on display!

We had a SHOWER of baby quilts too – and Sara won the drawing for several cool prizes – jelly, tomatoes, a casserole carrier – and there might have been more – but I think my attention drifted about that time!  Anyway it was GREAT that Sara won because I imagine that she quilted most of the quilts that the rest of us brought in!!!!  I tried to take pictures of all of the baby quilts – they were wonderful – but sometimes the viewing time was short!

AND SPEAKING OF BABIES…..

Heidi is expecting in December!  CONGRATULATIONS HEIDI!

and Jane brought pictures of her new grandangel twins born July 2!  (She made two baby quilts for the ICU in each of their honor!)

SPECTACULAR SHOW AND TELLS…..

Cindy shared her two new tattoos – fresh from a lot of fun in VEGAS!  Maybe I should go to Vegas with Cindy sometime – I wonder if I would come back “permanently embellished?”

We got to see great bags, books, antique memory quilts, and we got to see our BEAUTIFUL RAFFLE QUILT – we will be selling tickets in September!

I MAY have taken a few pictures of some very cool shoes too!  🙂  Hey, when you are wearing a boot – shoes are a major item of interest!!!

BROWN BAG EVENT!

And….if that wasn’t excitement enough, we had the unveiling (or should I say the de-bagging) of our Brown Bag blocks.  That was really a lot of fun!   For those of us who participated, a new person each month took our bag and made a block for our quilt – but we didn’t see them until yesterday.  We all got at least 6 blocks  – but some had a few more – if they were lucky enough to have Colleen as one of the block-makers….:)  I think she made at least 2 blocks for each person.

I love my blocks – made by sao (*me), Linda, Heidi, Donna, Barbara, and Sandie!  THANK YOU THANK YOU!  I am already working on putting them together!  🙂

We also got to see the FINISHED quilts from those who participated in the BROWN BAG last year.  To see the BEFORE and AFTER for these quilts go to www.countrypiecemakers.org and click on BROWN BAG 2009.

AND DO NO ASK ME WHY – but the LAST pictures are shown first – and since there are SO MANY – I am going to let them stand – so enjoy the pictures from the END to the BEGINNING.  Trust me – it will be fun.  🙂  I know, I know – it is a bit strange to see Catherine LEAVING before she ARRIVES – but hey – pretend that it is creative!  🙂

Celtic Knotwork – Blocks 2 and 3

Posted By on July 8, 2009

I had fun today making Blocks 2 and 3 (Lynne calls them Chunks – I kind of like that!) of the Celtic Knotwork Mystery Quilt today.  Each of the CHUNKS consist of 81 squares –  2 1/2 inch.  It is really like working on a puzzle – I miss doing that with all of my CA friends – we used to work puzzles together on weekend retreats!  🙂

Unless I just dreamed this, I believe that there will be 25 chunks that will be assembled into one quilt.  Mysteries are so intriguing!  🙂

If you want to see Lynne’s chunks her blog is on my blogroll – lynnes fresh hope quilting.

What I have been doing – Quilty Stuff

Posted By on July 7, 2009

I have been on a binding marathon and finally I have FINISHED FIVE baby quilts to give to the Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild on Saturday to donate to the babies in the ICU unit.  AND ONE OF THEM I QUILTED MYSELF – my first one ever and it is NOT GOOD – but I did my best – and I guess everyone has to have a first one.  Hopefully the baby who gets it will not care.  🙂  Sara  quilted the Baby Bears Pinks, the Baby Bears Blue, the Fabricaholics Jan. 09 Mystery (Star Struck) and the Giraffe and Friends quilts and they ARE  ALL GOOD.  I quilted the Premier Nine-Patch – I named it PREMIER because it is my premier quilting job.

These quilts were all made with a lot of help from four of my cats – and yes the quilts will be washed before going to the hospital!

I also made a label for my nephew Joey’s FOREVER PLAID QUILT – and I made my MODA SELVAGES 09 Blocks and Filler for July.  My filler block is unique because I used some tiny nine-patches that I had leftover from earlier months.  🙂

Cooper says he HAS to use the BACK of the quilt because he LOVES it – it is the LABEL THAT HE LOVES – he says it is like having a lunch box message on his bed!  TOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY!

Sarah Swims July 09

Posted By on July 7, 2009

We had fun tonight – Sarah did a good job and some of the timers thought that all of the CAMERAS focused on Sarah and all of us “SCREAMING CHEERLEADERS” were funny!  We sure cheer for her!

Catherine made Cooper a CARS BAG and he is so proud of it – he carried it to the swim meet FULL of cars and games – he shared it with a friend that he met at the pool!

Here are a few shots.  I couldn’t get a good picture at the end – the parents from both teams ran a swim relay – and Greg swam – did a good job too but it was dark!  🙂
