Powhatan Quilter’s Road Trip to Charlottesville

Posted By on July 6, 2009

Anytime there is a ROAD TRIP – especially when the ROAD TRIP leads to quilt shops, it is bound to be fun.  Today the Powhatan Quilters piled into Margaret’s car and took our meeting on the road.  Our first trip was Mr. Hanks……and I believe that Julia won the “buying the most fabric contest.”  We had lots of fun.

THEN…..we were famished from our strenuous shopping so we stopped off for Mexican cuisine!  YUM.

Armed with full stomachs we headed for Cottonwood – where I found the best selection of fashion flannels ever!  Merci, Julia, Margaret, Sherry and sao had a great time.

ENJOY THE PICTURES!

Celtic Knotwork Mystery

Posted By on July 4, 2009

I finished the first block of the Celtic Knotwork Mystery quilt – in my spare time between the parade, picnic, barbecue and fireworks fun.  There are 81 2 1/2″ squares in the first block.  I am making mine scrappy with blacks, golds, dark reds and creams/beiges  as the background

This is going to be fun – and if you want to make one too – just go to lynnes fresh hope quilting blog (a link is on my blog!)

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY 2009

Posted By on July 4, 2009

Today was LOTS and LOTS of fun – we started off with a wonderful Brandermill Parade and picnic!    While waiting for the parade to start someone started a marshmallow fight – my first one ever – really kind of fun, actually it was!  And wouldn’t this be better than rice to throw at a wedding?

Sarah’s swim team was in the parade and they had fun shooting all of the people with  water guns – all of the swim team members carried water guns and threw candy to the crowds – just like Mardi Gras!!!

I took a cute picture of some RITA Icees – and actually I ended up taking almost 200 pictures which I will not display here (did I hear a great sigh of relief?) – but I had to show this one.

Tonight we ooohed and aaahed at the fireworks – my camera did not capture the fireworks – but I got a few shots of the people – and JUST for fun I took a few pictures of feet – don’t ask – it just seemed like fun at the time!  🙂
I think it all started with a clown in the parade making a comment about my NICE CLOWN BOOT – and then she said, “You should have bought the other one.”  🙂

My PEPTO CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO QUILT now has borders and is with my long arm quilter Sara – complete with a little label!!!!!  I really like the border fabric that Susan picked out…..hot pink!  I got the pattern from Augusta Cole’s CUTTING BEE in January but the fabric was all from my stash – I have been collecting pinks for awhile……and there is barely a dent in my pink fabric.  🙂

And Finally I did some creative work on my label – two YO YO’s and three buttons GLUED ON WITH FABRI-TAC covered the holes left by the basting stitches.  Thanks to my VA SCRAPPER friends for coming up with this solution!!!
and…
I am currently working on my CELTIC KNOTWORK Block one – a picture will no doubt appear soon!  If you want the pattern click on lynnes fresh hope quilting on my blog roll (she doesn’t use capital letters and so I didn’t either!)  🙂

Sit And Stitch at Quilter’s Corner July 3, 2009

Posted By on July 3, 2009

Sit and Stitch at Quilter’s Corner today was just UNBELIEVABLE – there was a fantastic sale going on – fat quarters 10 for $15 and if that isn’t a recipe for fun, then I don’t know what is.  AND – in case you were wondering – the FQs keep appearing and the sale will continue throughout the weekend.  IT WAS A SUPER STUPENDOUS FANTASTIC  FIRECRACKER SPECIAL SIT AND STITCH – or something like that!  LOL.  🙂

The Show and  Tells were just fabulous – you will love the pictures – check out Susan’s “fur” top purse made by Karen Du Mont – a real conversation piece.  Joy made some breath-taking miniature quilts (with perfect seams and points – just very impressive)

– love JoAnn’s quilt with a scrappy back and her chocolate fudge pie from UKROPS WHICH SHE SHARED was to die for

– and Marla’s Fairy Quilt and hand blanket stitched stars were both wonderful…..and this is just a start!  I wish that I would have taken a full picture of Marla’s Egg Money Quilt – but there was a lot of excitement today – and somehow I missed it.

And speaking of excitement – Sherry brought  in Tom McLehaney to oil and grease “Sally” her featherweight – and that was fun to watch.  The picture that I took is hysterical – it looks like Sherry is about to punch Tom!    Sherry made me laugh all day today!

And you will not believe another spectacular event of the day…..Catherine made a surprise appearance – just couldn’t stay away from the big sale – and all of the wonderful NICE people who were sewing today at QC!  She designed and made her jewelry and looked absolutely stunning today – and the best part – she is wearing a boot instead of a cast!  YEAH!!!!!!

Thanks for the fun everyone!  I really had a great time.

Enjoy the pictures!
