Sit N Stitch – Quilter’s Corner – June 19, 2009

Posted By on June 20, 2009

Since school is out I actually got to go to SIT AND STITCH at Quilter’s Corner this past Friday, June 19th!

It was so nice to see all of my friends – many of them I haven’t seen for AGES!  Karen dropped by to shop too and that was so nice to see her.  Her next brain surgery is just days away – so keep her in your thoughts and prayers, please.

Cathy was getting ready for her son’s wedding – Marla was in Oklahoma – and Sheddy was in PA – and the “others” were MIA.  It sounds like an episode of LOST, doesn’t it!

I hope you enjoy the pictures!

My Quilty Stuff this week June 20 2009

Posted By on June 20, 2009

I don’t think I have posted any of my quilty stuff  lately….I am slipping.  I have been working on Augusta Cole’s CONFETTI QUILT for most of the week – I will post pictures when I get the top together – there must be a “MILLION” 2″ pieces in this quilt – but in the end, I am going to look at it and say WOW – you did it, sao!

I finished binding my nephew Joey’s HS graduation quilt – I named it JOEY’S FOREVER PLAID – and the pattern for it *scrappy stars*  is on the website – Kim’s Big Quilting Adventures.   I love this quilt – made with Joey’s outgrown plaid boxer shorts – and I thank Sheddy (aka SAR)  for directing me to the pattern.  TA DA….here it is.  It was quilted by A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT – my Sara was on vacation.

Celtic Knotwork Mystery Sew-A-Long

Posted By on June 17, 2009

Lynn at www.lynnesfreshhope.blogspot.com/2009/06/celtic-knotwork-mystery-sew-long.html is hosting a sew along mystery of sorts using 2 1/2″ squares – go check it out!  I think I am going to do it!  *You can also click on her blog on my website – lynnes fresh hope quilting.  It was designed by Deborah Cohen – who has given her permission!  I wasn’t going to start anything new …. but …..I am partly Scotch-Irish and I do have a lot of 2 1/2″ squares already cut ….. and ….. it is summer vacation…… and …..  hey, who needs an excuse!! 🙂

I have included three pictures – as hints – from lynnes blog.  Anyone else want to play!?

Fun with Catherine

Posted By on June 14, 2009

Catherine, Donna and I had a great time welcoming John home from the hospital today.  It was such a relief to have a happy ending to three scary days while John was hospitalized.

But today it was a real celebration with the most wonderful array of fruit and “scrump-dE-licious” strawberry cake – all set in a TOOTSIE ROLL THEME.

Sydney was SO VERY HAPPY.  Before John walked in she was very sad and listless – but when that door opened she jumped on the bed and began playing with her toys!!!!  There is nothing like the unconditional love and excitement that our pets give us!

Catherine made the cutest pins as guest favors – and she designed and sewed a bag for money or credit cards!  We got to embellish our  bag – and the choices of embellishments were so varied – it was SOOOOOO much fun…..loved my afternoon.  I really love my bag – it is so classy and I will use it when I am traveling this summer – perfect for keeping ID and money in!

Thank you Catherine – I can’t believe you went to all that trouble to get all the food,  put out a guest door mat and fleur de lis for the door, design and make the bags, buy special dishes and pitchers…….you are absolutely amazing – even when you are wheelchair bound.  And did I mention that you did all this in the midst of John’s hospitalization.

June Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild Meeting

Posted By on June 14, 2009

We had an informative meeting – we learned to use different rulers at our Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild on Saturday.  It is amazing how many tools there are for making cutting fabric easy – I think I may have to do some ruler shopping in the near future!  I took lots of pictures – so hopefully I will remember all the new things that I learned!

Michelle showed us a kaleidoscope ruler – and invited us to sign up for her class at Quilting Adventure the third Saturday in July.  I took a picture or two – or three.  🙂

An interesting bit of comraderie was witnessed.  Grace picked Jane’s winning ticket for a prize.  Then Jane picked Grace’s winning ticket for a prize.  Pretty fancy slight of hand!  🙂

Donna said our IF I WERE A FLOWER QUILTS were on display in Amelia the month of June and will be on display in Powhatan – at the library – during July.  I can’t wait to see this.  This will be the first time ever that I have had one of my quilts ANYWHERE on display.  TOO TOO EXCITING!

We had several crib quilts being turned in this month – pretty ones!  Next month we should have lots of baby crib quilts being turned in for our ICU Community Project – there will be a drawing for a prize – so that should be a motivator.  Everyone likes the idea of being eligible for a prize.

Our Show and Tells were spectacular this month.  Colleen finished her PIECE N PLENTY QUILT – and it has a wavy edge.  VERY IMPRESSIVE.  Lianna and her family made a memory quilt for her mother’s birthday – very creative.  Merci’s quilt won first prize EVERYWHERE – even at the state level.  It has beautiful hand quilting.  ALL OF THE SHOW AND TELLS THIS MONTH WERE VERY INSPIRING.

We were also so very happy to get Margie’s SUNBONNET SUE BLOCK – and as soon as the other Sue Blocks are turned in Colleen can put them altogether in a second guild quilt!  YEAH!

We missed several members who were vacationing, involved in other activities and/or recuperating from injuries and surgery.   We hope Catherine and Karen will be back with us – fully functioning – soon!!  We thought about assigning new jobs for some of our missing folks – but  we thought that would not be such a good idea!  🙂
