Main Street Houses…..
Main Street Houses – I finished all four blocks today – and after I had finished I realized that I had put a leaf at the top of the vines – and there should be a straight edge vine showing at the top. OH NO. I AM BUMMED. If it were for me, I wouldn’t care because OBVIOUSLY I liked it with the leaf at the top or I wouldn’t have IMAGINED that that was how it was supposed to me.
BUT….this is a block exchange – so I am at a loss for what to do…..I just cannot cannot cannot start over. Well, I COULD, but it would be distressing. LOL. :):) Any ideas?

and…..ta da…..tonight I finished the binding on my Old Virginia Road …..and that is probably my greatest accomplishment…..because binding is not my favorite thing. 🙂

Catherine and I made a BITS OF HOPE COMFORT QUILT for Karen – we thought she might enjoy cuddling up with something as she recovers from her brain surgery. We are so thrilled that the quilt matches her furniture and rug in her family room – a little angel must have whispered in our ears because neither of us have seen Karen’s family room.
Catherine designed the label and bag too!
Enjoy the quilt, Karen, and we are all keeping vigil with our prayers for a QUICK recovery!

The quilt show at Millstone today got rained out – but the fun reigned anyway! 🙂 There was plenty of “cozy atmosphere” both inside the quilt store and outside on the front porch where we were met and WOWED by quilt designer, Penni Domikis. Her quilts are charming and unique. What a lot of wonderful designs! Penni was SO GRACIOUS AND NICE …..and we had lots of fun! She even shared great tips on how to make a quilt label – and a quilt carrying bag! I am looking forward to seeing her again at the Fredericksburg Quilt Festival in November! She has a lot of wonderful quilt patterns.
I mentioned that it rained – but Catherine brought sunshine to us – PINWHEELS with stamps – isn’t that creative? LOVED THAT! We also saw some friends from the quilt guild in Williamsburg there today. Even though the quilt show got rained out – sorry, Sheddy, I couldn’t get the picture you wanted – our fun was not dampened one bit. 🙂
The day was wonderful. The barbecue was awesome! My GPS and Marla kept us from getting lost – and Catherine kept track of the correct lanes to be in! And we were inspired and motivated to MAKE MORE QUILTS! But – before heading home, I think we all wished that we could just pull up a chair and sit on the porch……and breathe in the fresh air ……and listen to the trickle of the stream……and maybe sip a mint julep (like on Pitty Pat’s Porch in Georgia!) I would like to have a camp-out there – a quilting campout! There are electrical outlets in the picnic area……HM………sound like fun?
And just when we thought that the day couldn’t get any better, on the way home, Catherine took us to GATHER – a charming country store with wonderful treasures. It won’t be my last visit!
I took pictures inside Millstone and on the front porch! And the camera came out again when we got to GATHER. I loved that place.

Today our Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild got to see Abigail Dolinger’s collection of Friendship Quilts that she has accumulated throughout her vast “military” travels! If she couldn’t find a quilting group where her husband was stationed, she created her own. I don’t think that I have ever seen so many examples of SUCCESSFUL block exchanges and round robins anywhere – ever! Aby reminded us that IT ISN’T JUST ABOUT THE QUILTS – it is also about the friendships and social support that is created by our quilting experiences! A lot of us were nodding our heads – SO TRUE!
As always, we enjoyed the guild members’ great SHOW AND TELLS! AND….that’s not all! Some of us stayed for a class on how to make an OHIO STARS MINIATURE QUILT. I am happy to say that I completed 2 blocks……..they are very cute – and very tiny – 3 1/2″ square! We had fun!! I actually made 2 blocks……and only occasionally did I experience a “DEAR JANE” flashback. LOL Thanks for the quilt instruction, Amy, and for the chocolate too. 🙂
I hope you enjoy the pictures – don’t fail to notice that Sherry – who was wearing BUNNY EARS at our meeting last month – is wearing a hat with a MAY DAY FLOWER on it. Thanks, Sherry, for your happy spirit!
Thanks to Marla for navigating today and avoiding all of the RACE DAY TRAFFIC!!!!
Next month Augusta Cole will be with us teaching us how to make her Confetti Quilt – I took a picture of her quilt today!

People in VA don’t really celebrate MAY DAY…..but growing up in Missouri, May 1st was MAY DAY – and people celebrated.
We used to make paper baskets (we cut paper and wove them into baskets) and then we picked flowers, filled our baskets with flowers and left them on the doorsteps of our neighbors’ homes. It was fun….we rang the doorbell and ran. I wish people still did that!
I was delighted when I gave birth to a MAY DAY BABY! That was a few years ago!! Tomorrow, my May Day baby – Rob – will be 41 years old. HOW CAN THAT BE!? Time just flies. One day they are holding your hand and the next thing you know, they are holding the hands of FIVE of my grandangels!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROB! I will be celebrating MAY DAY as long as I live because I got a really special MAY DAY BASKET in 1968!

Vincent, ROB, Harry, William and James
Here are all five of my cuties! Shirley Anne makes five!!
