30’S Club Moda Piece N Plenty Quilt

Posted By on April 19, 2009

I have been making blocks for  my 30’s Club Piece N Plenty Quilt this weekend – in between ball games, a slumber party and a weeding party.  Right now it is hard to tell if I am going to like it…….it is pretty colorful!

Here is what I have so far.

NO SLUMBER at the Slumber Party 4 18 09

Posted By on April 19, 2009

When thirteen year-old girls laugh – it is  loud.  They find reasons to scream (SHRILLY) and giggle a lot  ….  and they live large – especially at a slumber party.    Did you ever wonder why they call these gatherings a slumber party?  When you get a gaggle of girls together there is going to be ANYTHING BUT SLUMBER.  Sleepover is another misnomer!  Here they are – at their ONLY QUIET MOMENT – except for a brief lull between 2:30 and 5:30 am!

It was all good – lots of fun – and if the decibel level is a measure of success – then it was OVER THE TOP!
Grandma Shirley was the photographer – and as one of Nanna’s friends said,
“When you think of Grandma Shirley, you think of pictures!”
It is nice to be thought of…….I think!

Cooper’s FIRST Ball Game – April 18, 2009

Posted By on April 18, 2009

The BIG first ball game took place today – and the two teams of five year olds (Swift Creek vs. Midlothian) BOTH WON.  Now isn’t that just the best deal ever!  Everyone wins.  Wouldn’t that be a nice system if it happened in the REAL WORLD?  Hey, I guess it DID happen in the real world!  LOL

A good time was had by all!

Quilty SHOW AND TELL in Midlothian 4 18 09

Posted By on April 18, 2009

Today was an absolutely beautiful, gorgeous, sunshiny, perfect day.  A great chance to  stay inside with Midlothian friends and quilt – –  and think about the yard work that I will do TOMORROW!!!!!  🙂  The company was great and the show and tells were just wonderful.  The pictures are a bit compromised because of the bright sunlight, but I think you will get the picture.

I got some great close-ups of Catherine’s first quilt though!  I was even more impressed than I was the first time that I saw it.  She did some pretty fancy stitching.  The back of her quilt is fabulous.

I brought my OLD VIRGINIA ROAD Show and Tell – all finished except sewing the binding down!  I also worked on my IF I WERE A FLOWER CHALLENGE – and Catherine helped with some great embellishment ideas – she also taught me how to make a surgeon’s knot – pretty cool.  The pictures will be coming later after the big REVEAL at Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild in May!

Thanks to Bill (Sheddy’s DH) for letting us see the wonderful quilts.  His grandmother – oh dear, I think it might have been his great-grandmother – or his grandmother who was great made him a wonderful quilt!  Over the years the binding became worn, so he reproduced the quilt – and HAND QUILTED IT!  Pretty impressive!

Enjoy the pictures.

Nanna Turns 13 April 16, 2009 and My Parents Celebrate 66 years on April 17

Posted By on April 16, 2009

We have a teenager in the house now…..Nanna (AKA Leanna) turned 13 today!  She surely was HAPPY to be teasing us about the fact that she was going to turn into a teenager!!!!       It seems like only YESTERDAY that I was singing her to sleep!

She started the day with a 13 candle breakfast – and personally, I kind of liked the Breakfast Fairy’s idea of putting a candle in a Rice Krispie bar – hey, it IS CEREAL!         It seems like only yesterday that she was saying MEROTE instead of REMOTE!

Happy 13 Leanna

I drove Leanna and Kenzie to the bus stop……
It seems like only YESTERDAY that she cried because she didn’t want to turn 8 and grow up!

Tonight we had pizza, cake (DELICIOUS ICE CREAM CAKE!) and presents……

It seems like only yesterday that she wore a doll blanket on her head as a scarf to preschool and I didn’t have the heart to tell her that it was a fashion faux pas.

Five year old Cooper heard his mom  (my DD)  “jokingly” say that she wasn’t going to allow any teenagers in the house …
.. so today he told his friend that Leanna was going to move out.
It seems like only yesterday that she was driving a little pink  bicycle.
It is funny to see what misconceptions are confabulated in a child’s mind.  He  also asked my DD if Leanna were going to drive herself to TARGET.  Teenager = driving a car!

Leanna is a sweetie – and personally, I am going to PRETEND that she is still 12!  🙂

Life is fun!  And Saturday night when the birthday slumber party erupts, it is even going to be MORE FUN!

AND IF THAT WERE NOT ENOUGH EXCITEMENT……..

Tomorrow my parents will be celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary…..
