And I put together a top and back from Log Cabin Blocks from an Internet Exchange Group that I participated in last year.  The back is truly a Bonnie K. Hunter inspired “INTERESTING” pieced back.  Because it has so many fabrics from earlier quilts – hence memories – I have named this quilt “MEMORIES IN MY CABIN.”  It will be a donation quilt.

And TA DA – I finished my RAG QUILT.  I really LOVE IT.  Five year old Grandangel Cooper (WHO HAD JUST LOST HIS SECOND TOOTH ) announced that “WHOEVER JUST LOST A TOOTH GETS THIS ONE.”  He had told me earlier that he LOVED it and wanted to MARRY IT.  🙂
It appears that the RAG QUILT has found a home!

And here are the grandangel’s art work on display.  It was innovative – with art work lining the area at the top of the walls around the cafeteria and the gym areas.  They had a rock band too!

Happy April Fool’s Day 2009

Posted By on April 1, 2009

I think I got everyone today with April Fool’s Tricks!

I told my DSIL (AKA der5er) that he had a hole in the knee of his pants this mornng – just as he was about to go out the door for work…… and he was dancing around trying to find it before I spilled the beans that he had been HAD by the April Fool’s Breakfast Fairy!  He REALLY BELIEVED ME!

I really got my DH!  I told him that Oreo CHIPPIE Cookie had had kittens during the night.  My DH confirmed that he had noticed that she seemed to be getting thick around the middle.  The truth is that she was FIXED (supposedly) when we got her.  I pretended to be horrified that they had deceived us….but before I could carry on with the NUMBER OF KITTENS I felt guilty and fessed up!    LOL

DGrandangel Leanna fell for the IT IS GOING TO SNOW TODAY trick….and she even flipped on her TV to catch the latest news (OK – so at 6 am she was probably not totally awake or she might have been suspicious!)

DGrandangel Cooper ran to the window to SEE THE SNOW that I claimed was falling (and DD took took steps toward the window before she stopped!!!!)   Sarah was too smart for me…..but the BREAKFAST FAIRY GOT HER.

Can you BELIEVE the BREAKFAST FAIRY brought the kids a CRAZY BREAKFAST!  Dried rice, Bar B Q sauce, Lemon Juice – Giant Utensils and Medicine Cup size drinks.  OH MY  – that BREAKFAST FAIRY was busy this morning!  Their vitamins were hidden underneath their glasses….and their places at the table were all switched!  (DD got cheese and hot sauce for her waffle!)

I was going to say that I had become bored with quilting and was going to give it up – – but I didn’t think you would have  fallen for that one!

I hope YOU didn’t get FOOLED by anyone else TODAY!  No one got me – YET!!!

30’s Club at Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, CA 3 29 09

Posted By on March 29, 2009

Even though there were a few folks out today (in the sunshine with spring fever) the rest of us had fun at our 30’s Club afternoon at Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, VA.

In addition to our sewing fun, we shopped and we  had lots of fun sharing show and tells.

Three of us purchased a new arrival  – a FQ stack of 3o’s fabrics and it was one of the highlights of the day – choosing and taking turns splitting it three ways.  Marla, Colleen and I got to take turns choosing fabrics and Patsy was the referee.  Thankfully there were no skirmishes!  I think, in the end, we were all happy.

Enjoy the pictures!

PJ Quilting Party – Powhatan Library – March 28, 2009

Posted By on March 29, 2009

We had a COZY Pajama Quilting Party at the Powhatan  Library Saturday night (yes, you read this  right – a bunch of grown up women lounged around in the Powhatan Library quilting while wearing pajamas.)  It was really a lot of fun…..and just for the record, the library was closed.

We sewed and laughed and shared show and tells – and we ate pizza and chips and brownies and dip and cookies and cookies and cookies – it is the GIRL SCOUT COOKIE time of the year.  🙂  It really was delightful and cozy and I can’t think of many things better than the sound of  sewing machines humming, women laughing (we had some good children stories circulating – I am still laughing about Colleen’s story – ask her the next time you see her), cookies crunching and the pitter patter of raindrops on the library windows.

Colleen was busy sewing the binding on her Moda Piece and Plenty Blue and White Quilt and I am so impressed – she scalloped the edges……I am seriously thinking about attempting to do this – it really looks fantastic!

I was so excited to learn some new things too.  I found out  that I have been sewing my quilt bindings on in an inverted position – hence explaining why I probably stab myself so much.  With the help of my friends, after careful analytical observations, we determined that if I took off some of my thimbles (I was wearing four to protect myself from the needle stabbings) and wore only ONE that things would go better.  And VOILA – it worked.  I almost finished a very large Thimbleberries quilt binding with no further bleeding incidents.

AND…Colleen taught me how to make a French knot on the end of my thread too.  I love learning new things.

Catherine made me laugh ALL DAY LONG.  She definitely has the gift of humor in addition to her creativity!

We missed Sara, but it is probably a good idea that she chose to spend her wedding anniversary with her husband instead of us!  I am wondering if our quilting buddy Merci is out of the Rain Forest Jungle with her husband!  Yes, we lead exciting lives.

It was a lot of fun…..hope you enjoy the pictures!  Check out Catherine’s DOGGIE FABRIC ROBE!
