I worked here and there on several UFO projects – my token obligatory salute to maintaining my progress toward completion! 🙂
I did take a picture of a few things that I worked on…..Moda Selvages February blocks and fillers I did first!

I am going to be in California and will be missing my Thimbleberries Club meeting in March – but I faithfully did my homework anyway!

Thimbleberries Block for Feb. 09
I also finished my Bonnie K. Hunter Super Bowl Strip Twist 09 Challenge – I just finished the top – it still needs borders. It is still small too because I never did find the other COMPLETE TWO ROWS OF BLOCKS THAT I MADE. Now where oh where could they be? I am going to wait awhile before adding the borders in case the other two rows of blocks materialize (no pun intended!) If they don’t show up – then this will be a crib quilt! LOL!

After the February Colonial Piecemaker’s Meeting, Marla and I toured Yankee Candles. This was beyond my expectations. I expected to be amidst one of my FAVORITE THINGS IN THE WHOLE WORLD – candles! We were luxuriated in the wonderful smells (even though I just threw grammatical correctness out the window – you get the picture!) I couldn’t resist the MacIntosh Apple car fragrance trees and my favorite scents of the day were CAFE AU LAIT and CREME BRULEE and CLEAN COTTON. But when I start reciting my favorites I am reminded of the THOUSANDS OF OTHER SCENTS that I loved as well! The list just goes on and on. It was definitely a sugar and spice and everything nice adventure.
Marla got a buy one Yankee Candle get one free coupon from a very nice complete stranger too – so that was an unexpected treasure!
This place is JUST UNBELIEVABLE – it is like LAS VEGAS and DISNEYLAND for shoppers. They have several Christmas shops, toy shops, Raggedy Ann Dolls, Snow Babies, Nutcrackers, seeds, jellies, Vera Bradley GALORE – more than I had ever seen in any one place, FALLING SNOW, twinkling stars, home decor – it was a feast for the eyes. I think I could have been in there for HOURS and still have found new things to look at. There are only two Yankee Candle MEGA STORES like this – this one in VA and another one in MASS. I am so glad that we went.
Marla and I ate at a DARLING CARROT CAFE – it was decorated so cute – with carrots GROWING from the trees – and the food was great. We even shared a piece of THE MOST WONDERFUL CARROT CAKE EVER! I would go back just for the cake!!
Enjoy the pictures and the fun!

My friend, Karen DuMont, has some of the CUTEST PATTERNS ever. In fact it seems that you can see her and one of her darling quilts in almost every quilting magazine that you pick up these days!
Go check out her website – www.Kariepatch.com to see some of the TO DIE FOR applique and pieced quilts. You will just HAVE to make one.
I made Karen Du Mont’s Sea Friends Quilt for my grandangel, Leanna. She saw it hanging in Quilter’s Corner and FELL IN LOVE WITH IT AND HAD TO HAVE IT (I heard her telling one of her friends this!) It looks perfect in her room that is decorated in a beach theme.

The Sea Friends even made it to a pre-dance getting ready party!

Sea Friends and Girl Friends
I also made Karen DuMont’s Dynosaur Dynasty for my grandangel, Vincent. He has LOVED dinosaurs his WHOLE LIFE – so this was a MUST DO! I did my borders a bit different from the pattern – but I used Karen’s dinaosaurs!

What do you think – does Vincent LOVE his quilt, or what?

Dinosaur Lover on Dinosaur Dynasty
I plan to make a quilt for each of my grandangels, so I foresee more Karen Du Mont’s quilts in MY FUTURE.
I love love love the Jack and Jill quilts – and well, I just love all of them.

Featured in my weekly quilting log are two new quilts – Augusta Cole’s Hidden Pinwheel Quilt and Bonnie K. Hunter’s Strip Twist Super Bowl Quilt Blocks. I also sewed on Joey’s Forever Plaid Quilt – I put pictures of these on an earlier blog today!
I did finish the Fabricaholics January 24th Mystery Quilt (aka Bonnie K. Hunter’s Star Struck)…..well, it isn’t FINISHED FINISHED but the blocks are finished – it just needs borders, a back, quilting and binding….that is ALMOST FINISHED! 🙂 This is TOTALLY SCRAPPY without a bit of even controlled scrappiness and I am happy with it. I am surprised too because in the past I have always maintained SOME DEGREE of CONTROL – but not this time! 🙂

I also made my 30’s club blocks for the Star Quilt and the 30’s Club Peace and Plenty Quilt.

And the BIG EVENT OF THE WEEK – “Mamie” my 99K HAND CRANK SINGER Sewing Machine came to live with me. THANKS LINDA!!! I love it!

Mamie is in the Case!

Isn't She Beautiful! 1957

Mamie is a 99K

Doesn't She have the CUTEST CRANK!?
I just love “MAMIE” – she is named after my grandmother Mamie Elizabeth. I am told that if I get another old sewing machine that I can be considered a collector. Sounds like fun to me! 🙂
