Thimbleberries at Quilter’s Corner – February 2009

Posted By on February 1, 2009

We had a good time today collecting THIMBLEBERRY BUCKS for our HOMEWORK and SHOW N TELLS!  There were some fabulous SHOW N TELLS today!

And, of course, we had great snacks too.  Enjoy the pictures of our meeting today – wow, Super Bowl Sunday is a HAPPENING DAY here in Midlothian, VA.

I fear that Susan accidently got into a few of the pictures….she usually manages to escape the range of my camera. 🙂  Susan made the CUTEST FROG WITH A MINKEE BELLY and she did a paper piecing demo today and showed us some of her works in progress………talk about impressive!  So, there was a good reason – very good reason – that she turned up in the photo gallery today.  🙂

Today is a BIG DAY for football and SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL fans alike…….and then there are folks who add QUILTING to the mix of anticipated happenings for today.

Bonnie K. Hunter’s FANS are doing the Super Bowl Twist – either making her Strip Twist Quilt or another one of Bonnie’s patterns in mostly blue fabrics.  I am making the STRIP TWIST!

I am not going to PANIC YET – but I made a couple of ROWS of blocks and CANNOT LOCATE THEM to take a picture!  Don’t you wonder how a BIG SECTION OF SOMETHING CAN JUST DISAPPEAR!!!!  Oh dear, I guess I had better check the cat beds!
Happy SUPER BOWL EVERYONE!

Augusta Cole’s Cutting Bee January 31, 09

Posted By on February 1, 2009

Saturday I attended my FIRST CUTTING BEE hosted by Augusta Cole…..and it won’t be my LAST cutting bee.  It really was LOTS OF FUN.

Twenty-four quilters each brought in 20 1/2 yard fabrics cut into 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 inch strips.  Half of the fabrics were lights and half were darks.  We put all of the fabrics on long tables and then we each drew a number out of a basket.  Augusta announced the starting numbers and those were the ones who were first in line…..I was NUMBER 12 – and yes, I sure did take a picture of my number!  :):)

We walked (skipped?) around the tables and selected the ANNOUNCED number of strips until we had depleted the fabric on the tables.  You MUST NOTICE IN MY PICTURES HOW SOME QUILTERS EVER SO NEATLY LINED UP THEIR FABRICS.  It was pretty impressive.  Also notice MY FABRICS flowing – NOT SO NEATLY – from my basket.  🙂

After we had selected and arranged our fabric, neatly or not,  came more fun – trying to decide which of the many patterns of scrappy quilts that we wanted to use to turn our newly selected scrappy fabrics into a wonderful HAPPY SCRAPPY QUILT.  Some of Augusta’s friends had another name for them – SCRAPPY and USE YOUR IMAGINATION FOR THE SECOND RHYMING WORD.    I chose the Hidden Pinwheel Pattern!  WHO KNEW that there were SO MANY QUILTS that could be made from only 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 inch strips!  There were SEVERAL THAT I LIKED – so choosing was the hard part!

We had a wonderful time – we had a great lunch – got to see our fearless leader (Augusta) ride around the room on her scooter (to see how we were all doing!)   And that wasn’t all – Augusta also did a couple of nifty demos – and many of us left with the square-up ruler!   She also passed around her special exercise cushion – I have one and it really is good for getting a little exercise while sitting still!   🙂

If you haven’t heard of Augusta Cole, go to her website at www.augustacolequilting.com and you can read and see more!!!

Enjoy the pictures!!

Quilter’s Night Out – Quilter’s Corner, Midlothian, VA

Posted By on February 1, 2009

We had a cozy sew-in at Quilter’s Corner on Friday night (January 30, 2009.)

I think we spent almost as much time shopping for chicken fabric as we did sewing – but it was all good.  Well, it was ALMOST all good…..when you look at the pictures you will see one “sad Sheddy” because her background fabric for her block of the chicken quilt was green chicken wire  – and she was SO HOPING FOR red chicken wire.    Doesn’t she remind you of the POOR PITIFUL PEARL DOLL – well some of you weren’t around in the late 50’s – so I will include a picture of Pitiful Pearl!  Sheddy and the doll even have the same hair color.  TOO FUNNY!!!!

Actually we selected some beautiful fabrics – many from the new RISE N SHINE line.   I loved how Susan was folding the fabrics – so I took a few pictures!

Also take note of the quilt that Sheddy quilted herself – it is beautiful.  I worked on my newphew Joey’s FOREVER PLAID QUILT and I put a few blocks on the design wall to see how it was looking!

I hope you enjoy the pictures!
