I just had to post this – teachers will love this….it certainly gave me a big chuckle…LOL  🙂

A first grade girl handed in the drawing below for a homework assignment.

WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE LIKE MOMMY

WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE LIKE MOMMY

 Dear Ms. Davis,
I want to be very clear on my child’s illustration.  It is NOT of me on a dance pole on a stage in a strip joint.  I work at Home Depot and had commented to my daughter how much money we made in the recent snowstorm.  This sketch is of me selling a snow shovel.

OK OK OK Here is ONE MORE Quilty Thing from last week

Posted By on January 26, 2009

By popular demand, I am going to show it!  There was one more thing that I did last week.  It is the BUNNY HILL BLOCK OF THE MONTH BLOCK – A Tisket, A Tasket.  Now, don’t get me wrong – I LOVE THIS BLOCK……LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

Look at how CUTE this BUNNY HILL Block looks on the website!

sao’s QUILTY STUFF THIS WEEK

Posted By on January 25, 2009

What quilty stuff has sao been doing this week?

I finished my quilt top for IF I WERE A FLOWER CHALLENGE QUILT for the Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild – and I had so much fun doing it.  I will post a picture later when it is quilted, bound, and the quilt has been REVEALED.  Sara is going to quilt it for me – and I have made my first quilt label to put on it.  It is SO HARD not to put a picture  up!

OK – so I also finished a UFO  quilt top – I called it LOST ON THE ROAD AGAIN -it is my first heartstring quilt inspired by Sheddy and Bonnie K. Hunter.  It really is a good feeling to get an UFO closer to becoming a FFO (Finally Finished Object.)

And, as a Bonnie K. Hunter fan – I absolutely CANNOT make too many BORING BACKS – so here is my “kind of not boring pieced back.”  Daisy May was the first cat to lie down on it.  Aren’t cats so funny with quilts?  They just absolutely LOVE THEM!

Our FIRST Country Piecemaker’s BOM assignment  was to make an 8 1/2 x 20 1/2 block using yo yos – great idea Catherine and Sandie.  Here is my January homework….. 🙂  I won’t be at the February guild meeting so I am SHARING MY BLOCK here.  It is my CHRISTMAS COUNTRY CAT – in case you didn’t recognize it.  She is wearing a little necklace YO YO with a cute heart button in the middle (I got the button at Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, VA!)

I also have my block ready for the Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild BROWN BAG BLOCK EXCHANGE.  I won’t be able to attend the February meeting so I gave my block  and extra fabrics to Sara to deliver for me  (THANK YOU SARA!) …….here it is, SAO’S WINDMILL BLOCK.  I will be excited to see what other blocks are made to go with it!

In an earnest attempt to work on my UFO’s I also started putting together my paper pieced  BABY HEARTSTRING QUILT.  Here is what I have done so far.

I also worked on Bonnie K. Hunter’s DOUBLE DELIGHT MYSTERY QUILT and the Fabricaholics January 24th MYSTERY QUILT – pictures later.

The BIG TA DA of the week was getting two quilt tops back from Valerie at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT…..love them!  TWO MORE UFO’S COMING DOWN THE LINE!

Now comes my favorite part of making a quilt – the binding……NOT TRUE.  I stick myself…….I bleed and I must admit that I complain…….

I wear bandaids, three thimbles and I confess that I complain.     HOWEVER,  I have decided that I am going to TURN OVER A NEW LEAF……as of RIGHT NOW I WILL START PRETENDING to like putting  the binding on quilts.  Happy thoughts lead to happy outcomes……happy thoughts lead to happy outcomes…..happy thoughts lead to happy outcomes.  🙂

“I am LOOKING FORWARD TO MAKING AND SEWING ON THE BINDING for my two latest quilts….TA DA.”  The first one is a Fabricaholics Anonymous New Year’s Eve 2009 Mystery designed by Ann Smith!

This second quilt is Bonnie K. Hunter’s Old Tobacco Road Mystery (see www. quiltville.com for the free pattern) and I loved it SO MUCH that I made TWO – this is my SECOND ONE….and I named this one OLD VIRGINIA ROAD II.

FLAT SARAH ARRIVES FROM THE MIDWEST

Posted By on January 25, 2009

Third graders – all over the country – read the book FLAT STANLEY and then they make a FLAT SELF and send it somewhere for an adventure.

My grandangel, Sarah, sent her FLAT SARAH to my SIL, Kerry in Overland Park, KANSAS.  Flat Sarah arrived back home this week after having several Christmas celebrations with my family in both Kansas and Missouri.    Kerry did an awesome job and even though you may not be able to see the pictures very well, I am including them all here – just to give a feeling of what Kerry did.  FLAT SARAH had a wonderful time – and my brothers, sils,  and nephews and nieces were kind enough to pose with FLAT SARAH!  TOO WONDERFUL.  One of my fav pictures is of my CEO brother, Jim, wiping Flat Sarah’s face for her and my Nephew Tyler is wrestling with Flat Sarah…….and they let Flat Sarah help with the holiday dishes!!!    Don’t I have a family who likes to have fun!?

And my new bff, Gay, from Moss on the James said that her scrapbooking friends made FLAT SELVES and sent them away for adventures…..HM…..what a great idea.  I wonder if there will be a FLAT SAO in my future.  LOL!

THANKS TO MY WONDERFUL SIL, KERRY for showing FLAT SARAH SUCH A GOOD TIME……

The 30’s Club Has Been Launched for the Sunday Group

Posted By on January 25, 2009

Today we got started on our 30’s Club 2009 projects at Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, VA.  Some of us are making the STAR QUILT – it probably has an official name that I am not aware of  – and some of us are making the MODA PIECE AND PLENTY 2008 MYSTERY QUILT in 30’s fabrics.  Of course it isn’t a mystery this year because we KNOW the outcome.  Some of us are making BOTH QUILTS.  Sheddy is making both because of her new year’s resolution to start a new project each day.  (She started ONE today and will start the OTHER ONE tomorrow.  LOL    I am making BOTH  too – because of an inability to make a choice.  SIGH…… both quilts are wonderful, so what is a woman to do!

It was fun seeing the same blocks being made with different fabrics.   We had a great time chatting and sewing and…….some of us were shopping too!  🙂

Oh yes, and if anyone has a blindfold – hopefully one that  makes a fashion statement, Sheddy needs one for her next project.  I am her self-appointed advocate – I want to make sure that she HAS ONE to wear.

And now for the picture show…………enjoy!
