Marla and sao Attended the Moss on the James Luncheon

Posted By on January 25, 2009

I absolutely cannot believe that there are so many SUPER NICE PEOPLE in Midlothian.  Marla took me, as her guest,  to the Moss on the James Luncheon at Crab Louie’s in Midlothian, VA this weekend.  The restaurant was AMAZING.  I was absolutely gasping at all of the antiques in the restaurant – I am sure glad that Marla doesn’t get annoyed at all of my OOOHING and AAAHING and picture taking.  (I plain and simple just like to celebrate life and squeeze joy out of every moment!)

I was especially THRILLED to see  an authentic pedal operated push stop organ just like the one that my grandparents had in their home on their farm in Green City, MO.  I took a picture – I really just couldn’t believe it!  I can remember sitting and playing that organ – many moons ago!!!

I knew that quilters were special people … and I always have fun with fellow scrapbookers – but who knew that P. Buckley Moss collectors were so awesome as well.  AND I FOUND OUT THAT SOME OF THESE SPECIAL FOLKS ARE ALSO QVC SHOPPERS.  Oh, did we EVER HAVE FUN talking about what we were wearing from QVC  and what we had at home from QVC – and what we SHOULD BUY from QVC.  Some of us used the same make up – and face cream – and bed sheets….LOL.  My new bff, Gay, showed us some absolutely amazing scrapbook pages of her favorite guy!  She is very talented and now I want a CRICKET!!!  🙂

One of the things that I like about P. Buckley Moss collectors is that they do nice things to help others.  At the luncheon we drew names out of a bag to see who won the Moss print – all proceedings went to charities.  I am happy to say that I DREW THE NAME OF THE WINNER…..that is almost as good as winning……almost…..:)

The food was great (I had the best crab cake that I have ever had and I had Bananas Foster TO DIE FOR for dessert!)  I really had a memorable time – the people were so friendly and we laughed a lot – and I am happy to say that I joined the chapter.  I love their name…..MOSS ON THE JAMES.  I can’t wait until we go to THE BARN to have breakfast with P. Buckley Moss herself!  There are lots of things to look forward to!

I took several  pictures of SOME of the nice people there, the restaurant, the food and the drawing for the Moss print.  One of the FUN PARTS of the luncheon was seeing all of the Moss jewelry that people were wearing.  I am so happy to be a new member of the group.  THANKS AGAIN MARLA!

Family Happenings – Basketball and the Snowball Dance

Posted By on January 25, 2009

My grandangel Cooper (age 5) is part of the UPWARD Basketball program and his game this weekend was an absolute DELIGHT.  I don’t know when I have ever laughed so hard in my whole life.  These little guys were so cute and funny.  They were pretty good about stealing the ball – and most of the time they stole it from the OTHER TEAM.  Do you remember when dribbling the ball was a major accomplishment?  It is pretty hard to remember when to run and when to dribble – and WHICH SIDE OF THE COURT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE THE BASKETS ON.

Laughter is good for the soul and my soul was very happy after Saturday’s game.

My grandangel Sarah (age 9) and my dsil went to Sarah’s  Girl Scout Father-Daughter Snowball Dance Friday night and they danced the night away.  TOO CUTE.   I helped her get dressed and it was SO EXCITING.   My dd was a chaperone so she got to be the FLY ON THE WALL to watch all of the fun!  I had to share a picture of the happy faces!  Sarah almost didn’t recognize her papa – she isn’t used to seeing him dressed up!!!!  🙂

Shenandoah Valley Quilt Guild ROAD TRIP and BONNIE K HUNTER Jan. 16 – 17, 2009

Posted By on January 18, 2009

I just got back from a memorable trip to Harrisonburg, VA where we met some ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL PEOPLE.  Catherine, Margaret and I were so HAPPY to be guests of the Shenandoah Valley Quilt Guild on Saturday, Jan. 17 to not only enjoy meeting all of the lovely guilty folks, but to also get to see Bonnie K. Hunter’s lecture and trunk show – and to be a part of her SPIDER WEB QUILT WORKSHOP (Catherine took the Star Struck Workshop on Friday as well!)

We really enjoyed all of the SHOW N TELL projects of the Shenandoah Valley Quilters too.  I shared three of my Bonnie quilts….Maverick Stars, Carolina Crossroads, and the 2009 Super Bowl Bargello challenge!  I TOOK LOTS OF PICTURES!  (And just for the record – Margaret REALLY was there but she made a great effort to stay out of my camera’s eye!  :))

Catherine – one of the most creative people on the face of this earth made a needle case out of a recycled shirt collar….a pin cushion out of a toilet paper roll and an antique spool, a notebook out of odds and ends of her treasure trove….and she made Bonnie a tote bag out of her recycled shirt strips.  She also shared her famous embellished jacket during SHOW N TELL.  And just for the record, I think Catherine is NEVER GOING TO DUST HER MACHINE AGAIN because Bonnie used her machine to demo during the workshop!  🙂

This one is Bonnie’s MAVERICK STARS Quilt that Catherine and I are showing during SHOW N TELL.  I loved making this one – it was lots of fun!  I just finished the top as part of a grand effort – it was on my 2009 UFO Challenge List. 🙂

This was Bonnie’s first Mystery Quilt – Carolina Crossroads – DON’T YOU JUST LOVE IT.  It is my DH’s birthday present this year!  Catherine is helping me hold up my quilts during Show N Tell!  Anyone can be a part of Bonnie’s Yahoo Quiltville Chat group – just go to www.quiltville.com and join in the fun!  There are woman all over the world who are following Bonnie’s mysteries.

This was Bonnie’s 2008 Super Bowl Bargello Challenge  last year – and yes, we are doing one this year too.  Some of us are doing Bonnie’s STRIP TWIST  quilt with her and others are making ANY OF BONNIE’S QUILTS,  but using mostly blue fabrics.  It isn’t too late to cut some strips and get ready to join in the fun February 1.  If you are a football fan – just position your sewing machine near the TV and have double the fun!

We were made to feel SO WELCOME by members of the Shenandoah Valley Quilt Guild……thanks especially to Fran and Mary who made this happen for us…..

…..and we had SO MUCH FUN

…..and we were so inspired by Bonnie……..that I think the excitement will be lasting quite awhile in our hearts.  Bonnie was absolutely fabulous and all of us were in awe of her multitude of scrappy quilts.  I think many of us  GAINED AT LEAST ABOUT 10 new UFO’s just by watching her trunk show!

Bonnie shared her Scrap User Secrets – and her system and her “TROPICAL TWIST QUILT”  is featured in the January/February 2oo9 issue of QUILTMAKER magazine!   Bonnie jokingly noted that her name was even in larger font than the ever famous and wonderful Mark Lipinski.  Way to go Bonnie!

Bonnie’s new book is fabulous and she is working on her second one!  You can order Bonnie’s book SCRAPS AND SHIRTTAILS  from Bonnie’s Quiltville website – or from the Kansas City Star Website – or from Amazon!  I love this book!

SIT N STITCH – Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, VA Jan. 16, 2009

Posted By on January 18, 2009

I took my Grandmother’s Flower Garden project to Sit N Stitch at Quilter’s Corner on Friday – and I think I sewed on THREE WHOLE HEXAGONS.    Why did I do so little?  Well, I was having TOO MUCH FUN taking pictures, shopping and getting myself and others involved in multiple NEW PROJECTS.  Yes, it is all due to Sheddy’s New Year’s Resolution to open the flood gates and start a project a day – if one so desires….and I think some of us are desiring to do just that.  🙂

Be sure to notice Marla’s Fairy Quilt.  She used a free pattern on the Michael Miller website.  I love it so much – I just got goosebumps when I saw it.  I also LOVE her BLOCK ONE of the Bunny Hull BOM….the little snowman is just SO CUTE.  I am going to have to make mine soon!

We had a couple of quilts (Sherry’s Quilt designs from the Quilter’s Corner retreat last week) to ooh and aah over – and speaking of oohing and aahing – Trudy made some doll clothes blocks that are just BEYOND CUTE!

I also got excited because the ski shop in Sycamore Square  was making artificial snow – and since I LOVE SNOW, I just naturally had to take a picture.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of our fun!

sao’s DOUBLE DELIGHT – Quiltville Mystery Quilt Progress – and Kitty Update

Posted By on January 11, 2009

I really like Bonnie K. Hunter’s new mystery quilt that she has named DOUBLE DELIGHT.  Earlier I posted pictures of my first two steps…..and here are my steps 3, 4, and 5.  Step 6 is the part where we sew all of the blocks together.  This is on my Colonial Piecemaker’s 2009 UFO Challenge List – so I AM GOING TO GET IT FINISHED!  This is going to be one that I am really proud of.  I LOVE the little 1 1/2 inch squares in the 9-patch.  These really are one of my FAVORITE THINGS!  Sherry got me started on these when I made her BIRTH OF A SAMPLER QUILT!

Bonnie and her QUILTVILLE fans are doing another Super Bowl 2oo9 Quilt.  Last year we did her Bargello Quilt and this year we are doing her STRIP TWIST – or – any of her quilts in mostly blue colors.  I am doing the Strip Twist…..time to go cut some strips!  🙂  You  can see the STRIP TWIST FREE PATTERN on www.quiltville.com website.

KITTY  UPDATE

I have been getting some requests  for a kitten update – remember when I adopted Catherine’s litter (the cat’s litter, that is – the cat who entered her house through her doggie door and gifted her with three kittens!)  SO HERE IS THE UPDATE.

All three kittens – are doing great!  They have so much fun and they LOVE Pepper, our dog – and Pepper loves them.  They KISS each other when they are separated for a little bit!  Do you think that it is true that pets and their owners look alike?  Look at DH and Pepper in the picture below.  Yep – think so!  🙂
