January 2, 2009 – SIT N STITCH at Quilter’s Corner

Posted By on January 4, 2009

On the SECOND DAY of 2009 I enjoyed a wonderful day at the Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, VA.  We had another one of our SIT N STITCH days.

NORMA

And you won’t believe what Norma did this time (remember last time I took a picture of her Cathedral Window Quilt?)  This time Norma wore a QUILTY JACKET that she made……LOOK AT THIS!  Amazing, isn’t it?!  I hate  to OVERUSE the word AMAZING but there just isn’t another word for this!

AND TA DA….here is the back of Norma’s Jacket…..it is hard to see the little YO YO in the middle, but look closely!

And this little picture review would  not be complete without a close up of the sleeve.  See, I told you it was AMAZING!

Norma could have possibly been in the Broadway Musical of JOSEPH and the TECNICOLOR DREAM COAT – if only I would have had my blog in time for her to be discovered!
SUSAN
OK – so on to other SIT N STITCH SHOW N TELLS…..this is Suan with her FINISHED 2007 Block Exchange Quilt.  Isn’t it beautiful?  Susan had other wonderful things to show – but she is the resident owner, quilt designer and famous celebrity star in our group.  Her new work will be published soon and so I am honor-bound not to leak her masterpieces….but stay tuned.  Once her quilts are OUT THERE, you will see her work here!

Wasn’t this BRILLIANT of Susan to add a SPLASH of color to this pink and brown quilt – we used Alex Anderson’s pattern?  I LOVE IT.  And, Mother, I made the block on the top row – your far right!  :):)
SAO
I accomplished the completion of my FIRST UFO ON MY 2009 QUILT CHALLENGE LIST!!!!!!!!
I put the binding on Shirley Anne’s Cotton Candy Quilt!  Now this feels good!  This was quilted by Valerie at A Needle Runs Through It in Goochland, VA  and it has been sitting waiting for binding for let’s just say for….. “awhile.”

I have grown to love these scrappy backs – thanks to Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville for the idea.  I think Bonnie makes her squares for the backs of her quilts 10 1/2 inches and I make mine 15 1/2 inches.  Those big blocks  just look so HAPPY!
What REALLY makes me happy is that I actually used those little BONUS TRIANGLES in the border of my quilt!  LOOK!

MARLA
Marla, in the white vest, is helping Shirley with her first quilt.  They got the binding sewn on!  Marla brought NOT ONE BUT TWO sewing machines to Sit N Stitch and she never used either one of them.  I think she should get a prize for that…..doesn’t that have to be some kind of a record…..ideas, anyone?
GINGER
Ginger worked on a VERY CHEERFUL BRAID QUILT…..really the fabric makes you smile!

If you live in or near Midlothian and you are a quilter – or a wannabe quilter you should join us at Quilter’s Corner on Sit N Stitch the first and 3rd Fridays.  It is so much fun.  We gather around the back table for lunch that we either bring – or go out and bring in – oops, that reminds me that someone forgot to tell Susan that it was lunch time last Friday.  Poor Susan.  Sometimes it gets lonely when you are at the top!  🙂

OK – so the FUN PART is that if you NEED A BREAK FROM SEWING, EATING AND LAUGHING (and I always seem to need a break) you can go run up a tab at the SHOP!  Isn’t that so cool.

I am really excited about the 30’s Club at Quilter’s Corner starting this month.  I HAD to take some pictures of the 30’s background fabrics…..

Love these 30's Background Fabrics at Quilter's Corner

And I am still excited about the fairy fabrics by Michael Miller……HM….can anyone have TOO MANY FAIRY QUILTS?

Marla showed us what she has done so far on her Fairy Quilt……I know you can’t see it in the picture, but there is actually sparkling fairy frost in some of the fabrics.  TOOOOOO CUTE!

And just for the record, you don’t have to be a LITTLE GIRL to like fairies!

SO….another fun and productive DAY 2 of 2009!

Starting the New Year with Catherine and Memories Galore

Posted By on January 4, 2009

Catherine and I were UP AND OUT of the house January 1st, 2009  – BRIGHT AND EARLY!  We met at the local McDs  for pre-scrapbooking fun!  Now do you think I had my CAMERA?  If you said yes, then that is the wrong answer.  OK….so if I would have had my camera I would have taken a picture of Catherine at McDs..   Here is a picture of Catherine – and she had on the CUTEST NECKLACE – a fairy with fluffy hair!

Ok – so this ISN’T the McDonalds that we met at – but the Midlothian McD’s had the same ambiance!  🙂  REMEMBER I FORGOT MY CAMERA, so I am doing the best that I can here!  OK – here is another opportunity for you to use your imagination!

We then went to Memories Galore for a day full of good fun, cropping, shopping, eating, laughing and Catherine even won a prize!  It was lots of fun and Catherine made some VERY AMAZING things – but I can’t say what because I think it is as of yet an undisclosed secret.  sigh….  If you look at the picture above, IMAGINE us sitting in the room in the back of the store laughing, eating, spinning and gluing things!  🙂

I made covers for three scrapbooks (they are actually 3-ring notebooks that I embellish and call scrapbooks)  for three of my grandangels and in each book there are two page layouts that I made showing their efforts at Christmas decorating.  I took pictures when I got home ( there sat my camera!)  Grandangel Cooper managed to get himself in my pictures – that boy is a real clown!    He actually dropped down and got into the pictures  just as I snapped them!    TA DA….here is what I did (and yes that took me 7 hours!!!!)

Well, part of that time was taken by making the spine labels!

It felt good to be productive as the new year emerged.  However, it was a tad bit humbling when Cooper pointed out that he only had TWO PAGES in his 2008 book.    Sigh, my quilting appears  to have taken  up some of my time.  LOL!!!!  🙂

Hurry – you still have time to shop in 2008

We went to Stony Point to see the snow fall – even though it was only soap, I have a good imagination and I PRETENDED like it was snow.  It was fun!

Snow - even fake snow - MAKES US GIDDY!

Snow - even fake snow - MAKES US GIDDY!

OK – so now for the REAL PURPOSE OF THIS POST…..while waiting for the snow to fall, we wandered into SUR LA TABLE – a wonderful kitchen gadget store….and look what I bought !  MOP SHOES!
SAO HAS mop feet

SAO HAS mop feet

These are the best THINGS EVER…..the mop part velcros off for washing!  Aren’t they wonderful.  The mop part is made from microfiber and they slide on hardwood floors ever so nicely.  HOW MUCH FUN HAVE I BEEN HAVING?  LOTS…..I can “ice skate” and even do the LETTER S.

OK – so just think of it, you can sew – SKATE to the ironing board – SKATE back to your cutting board – SKATE back to your sewing machine.  Who would have thought that you could sew and clean at the same time!

When my DD, Christi, was small I INVENTED an “FBI GAME.”    Here is how you play.  Each PLAYER (child) gets a rag and a can of 409 CLEANER.  The children run around the house FINDING FINGERPRINTS…..on woodwork, light switches, etc.  DD got stars on her chart for chores accomplished and she redeemed stars for sleepovers!  I had kids coming to my door all of the time saying, “CAN WE COME IN AND PLAY FBI?”  Too funny!

Now for the next generation (my grandangels and friends) I am going to INVENT a “SKATING GAME” – look – it is working already!

Cooper LOVES the SKATING SHOES!

THESE MOP SHOES ARE ON MY LIST OF FAVORITE THINGS…..hurry, there is still time for you to shop in 2008!
AND……this is a MUST DO!  Look at this fairy fabric from Michael Miller – now at Quilter’s Corner inMidlothian, VA.  I included a link to the website if you want to see more of the fairy fabrics!

SO  while you are out shopping  for your mop shoes – GO TO THE QUILTER’S CORNER in Midlothian, VA – they have the BEST EVER FAIRY FABRIC in every color imaginable….and they have FAIRY PANELS to die for.
HURRY – the fairy fabric won’t last long, I can guarantee that!

DH Had A Happy Birthday

Posted By on December 28, 2008

It isn’t an EASY time to have a birthday – the day after Christmas – but nonetheless, DH had a Happy Birthday!  He and Pepper are watching the weather channel (he LOVES the weather channel – TRUE,) drinking coffee and enjoying the early morning snuggle time!

No birthday is complete without a walk.  I had to laugh because anyone who really KNOWS me knows that most of my clothes are black – no big psychological reason – I just LIKE black!  Honest.  (Well, there is a TEENY WEENY psychological link – I am a BIT HYPER – I MEANT TO SAY ENERGETIC and black calms me down – soothes my soul!  LOL)   But on special occasions, like DH’s birthday, I try to wear a spot of blue – DH’s favorite color.  Look how Pepper’s Sweater, the leash and I match!

DD Christi made the DELICIOUS HOMEMADE FRUITCAKE – and yes, we both LOVE fruitcake.  It was perfect, except someone took a tiny piece out of the cake before DH got it.  LOL.  Now WHO would do such a thing!!!!  Actually I cannot believe that someone actually took a piece of cake before DH got it….it was SO OUT OF CHARACTER…..for me.  But, you know, I had never ever in my life had warm fruitcake – and I thought that I could just push the cake back together and no one would ever know………but the cut was too clean to cover up.  LOL!

Despite the slight wedge gone out of the cake, the cake was a success….and I actually hope that this fruitcake becomes an annual tradition.  I just LOVE TRADITIONS.

DH - Make a Wish!

He wished that next time Christi would send him a WHOLE CAKE!

We had lunch at Max’s FAV place – CRACKER BARRELL – yes, he didn’t even have to look at the menu – it was chicken and dumplings with fried okra and fried apples.  PERIOD!  No variation.  Can’t improve on a good thing, right?   The little red things in the foreground are tomatoes sticking out of my salad……I had the BLT Salad.  Thanks to the Epps Family for the birthday gift card to the CB!

For dinner I was so FANCY – I fixed Lentils and Rice…..love those COSTCO delights!  And we watched MAMA MIA…..Hm….I think that was the sixth time for me – I just can’t get enough of that movie…..FIVE THUMBS UP!

BDay Dinner and a Movie

Tonto Morris, Daisy May, and Pepper helped celebrate – can you believe that some people let their cats eat right on their table?  🙂  I don’t mind it so much when they are eating chicken – but when they have salmon while I am eating my breakfast – well, I am only SMILING ON THE OUTSIDE – and that is the truth!

DH and the kitties are having a party!

Ok – so Christmas is over – DH birthday is over – we had fun – and now it is time to take the Christmas decorations down.  You will notice a naked Christmas tree in the background – the kitties have already UNTRIMMED THE TREE.  Really – every last ornament.  Daisy May is on the coffee table – laughing…..doesn’t it look like she is laughing?
It is almost time to ring in the New Year!
