MY SIX UFO’s FOR THE FABRICAHOLICS 2009 Challenge

Posted By on December 15, 2008

I recently joined another Yahoo group – the Fabricaholics!  TOO FUNNY!  Helen, in VA, has invited us all to make a list of SIX UFO’s…..and she will pick a number each month and that is the quilt that we work on and finish.  Sounds like fun.  I like this challenge and having SOMEONE ELSE choose the number of the UFO that we will work on will make it interesting.  HM…..what number will she choose first!  :):)

SO HERE GOES…..MY SIX UFO’s that I am committing (FOR THE WORLD TO SEE) to finish in 2009  – in the order that the group decides!  🙂

Eleanor Burns Inspired EGG MONEY QUILTS at Quilter’s Corner

Linda's Egg Money Quilt

Linda's Egg Money Quilt

Our Egg Money Quilt Class had its last meeting on Sunday at Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, VA  and we were very productive.  Look at Linda with her Egg Money Quilt blocks!  Linda drove ALL THE WAY from Virginia Beach each month to sew with us!  She made her Egg Money Quilt a bit larger than the rest of us and I really like it – especially her yo yo flower embellishment!

We had lots of fun in our class – Eleanor Burns (dressed in her 30’s aprons and often holding a chicken)  was our DVD leader (and I might add that she was quite entertaining!)  Susan, our real life leader, sewed right along with us and she finished  her quilt top on Sunday.   This is Susan’s quilt BEFORE THE BORDER…..we love that red background!

Isn’t this a great border!  Susan showed us how to do PERFECT MITERED CORNERS.  I really like it.  I wonder how many red backgrounds we will see on our quilts that we make in 30’s Club next year!  I am already looking forward to that!
🙂
🙂
Isn’t it fun to dream of and start making new quilts?   I guess it is that DOPAMINE brain rush in our pleasure centers that makes us feel the excitment  when we do something new!    (I wish I knew how to get that same DOPAMINE HIGH when I am putting the binding on quilts….LOL.)  Oops, I think I just lapsed into my classroom mode.
🙂
🙂
We all had fun putting our blocks on the design wall and seeing the same quilt in different fabric choices.  I love Marla’s bright 30’s fabrics and in retrospect I wish that I would have used brights as well!  This is a beautiful quilt!  I like all of the reds that she used too.

AND TA DA – here are my blocks on the design wall.

I have been MULLING IN MY HEAD ALL DAY about my border –  should I make my favorite checkerboard blocks??   piano keys??  or a small and a larger border.  The quilt is talking to me and as soon as WE decide, I will show and tell!  🙂  As you can see I put in TWO FRIENDSHIP BLOCKS on opposite corners.  I absolutely LOVE THIS BLOCK and I want to make a whole quilt of friendship blocks in 2009.  (MORE DOPAMINE!!!)
🙂
We all had fun today – even my grandangel – FLAT SARAH 3rd Grader – who went to Starbucks with me BEFORE CLASS.

Flat Sarah is sitting on the sewing table, lounging against my Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine Case!    By the look of that smile on her face, I think she got a DOPAMINE RUSH from seeing the quilts in the class today – or maybe it was the caffeine!!
🙂
Sara – get ready to see my Egg Money quilt in your quilting cottage soon……shall I  bring Starbucks??????  🙂

Country Piecemaker’s and Antiquing

Posted By on December 13, 2008

Oh my goodness – can you believe it – my camera batteries were dead when I got to the Country Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild Meeting today in Powhatan, VA.  OH MY GOODNESS, the four replacement batteries that I had with me were also GONERS.  CAN YOU IMAGINE….ME…..without a camera on the best camera day ever?  Oh well, no need to fret over the small stuff!

We drew names today  for a gift exchange at our Winter Luncheon – this should be lots of fun and challenging to find a gift for $15.  I am NOT telling whose name I drew, but I have an idea of what to do.

Catherine gave everyone the cutest ornaments that she made and Sandie made everyone Christmas coasters.  I would have taken a picture of these LOVELY PRESENTS, but I think someone must have picked mine up by mistake,  because I didn’t make it home with them….but you know what?  IT REALLY IS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS…..and I was so pleased and impressed……I wish that I were this nice.  THANKS CATHERINE AND SANDIE!

Even though I lost my special presents, we had a wonderful wonderful meeting today.  Sandie has been collecting orphan blocks all year and she had them packaged according to color and content……so that each table was given the task of making a quilt with the blocks that we were given.  Oh, it was WONDERFUL….so much fun.  The outcome was absolutely amazing.  WE MADE SIX QUILT TOPS and they looked wonderful!   The quilts will go to a shelter for women and children who really NEED the comfort of a quilt too, so the cause was a dear one!

IN YOUR IMAGINATION INSERT SOME PICTURES OF SIX FABULOUS QUILTS RIGHT HERE….:)

After the meeting, I had to go antique shopping.  (Don’t ask WHY I had to go, I just DID!  :))  I found a coat tree – or maybe it is called a hat rack  – I have been looking for just the right one forever.  Even though I found it in an antique store, I don’t think it is an antique.  BUT I LIKE IT!

I also found a hat.  Now you might be wondering why I would want to find a hat – I don’t wear hats – right?  Well, I am going to wear one in the near future and I hope it will be lovely.  The Country Piecemakers  are going to decorate  hats to wear to our GUILD WINTER LUNCHEON in January.  I hope that I can think of something wonderful to do to decorate  this hat – suggestions are welcomed!!!!  I DID GET A PICTURE OF MY HAT AND COAT TREE – HAT RACK – whatever!  YEAH _ a picture.

And that is not all, Catherine made me two (NOT ONE BUT TWO) pillows.  She is so talented and creative!  YES, I HAVE PICTURES OF THE PILLOWS.   🙂

GRANDANGEL LEANNA – THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER

Posted By on December 13, 2008

This has been a week of drama for 7th grader grandangel Leanna!  She was a baby angel in her school play, ‘THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER.”   She wore Ginger’s skirt and petticoat in that one.  In some of the pictures (when she is an angel in the pageant, she is wearing a sheet.)  LOL  In the pictures you will note some OUT OF ORDER experiences because these pictures were taken on two separate evening performances.

Tonight she was a teenager in her drama class peformance of “THE BEST CHRISTMAS SLEEPOVER EVER.”  Sister Sarah made her FLAT SARAH for her 3rd grade project – SO FLAT SARAH WENT TO THE PERFORMANCE TONIGHT – you won’t miss her in the photos.  LOL   The kids helped their drama coach write the play – they did a good job!  I liked the fact that they sang too!   Both venues were not great for taking photos but I captured the essence of the experience.  Both plays were great!

Here are my best efforts at photography under school and church lighting conditions!  LOL

I Left My Quilts in Kansas City…….

Posted By on December 10, 2008

I delivered three quilts in Kansas City……and that is a happy feeling.

Fred’s Boxy Stars (Bonnie Hunter’s Quiltville Pattern) went over big.  Brother Fred loved it – and especially the back which was made from his pocket t-shirts.  Sara Parrish quilted it and left one pocket free so that I could put one of Fred’s Signature pens in it.   This was FUN to make!

My neice, Amanda, got the Purple Braid Quilt – the only quilt that I have pieced by hand (Sara Parrish did the quilting and she did a FABULOUS job!)  As far as I know this was a suprise for Amanda – and I think she liked it – her favorite color is purple!  Her baby – Tara Lynn – took a real liking to the quilt!!!

The last quilt will be making its home in Texas and it is for my nephew, Dustin, who is serving in the Coast Guard.  It is the Pineapple Crush pattern (Bonnie Hunter’s Quiltville Orange Crush Design) and it was quilted by Sara Parrish in Midlothian, VA
