Chippokes Plantation Craft Festival, November 2008

Posted By on November 2, 2008

After the Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild Meeting, Marla and I went to the Chippokes Plantation Craft Festival.  Oh my – was that ever just TOO MUCH FUN.

I LOVED the ride on the Williamsburg Ferry across the James River.  I was so excited because it was my first time!  And to tell you the truth, I probably would have been just as excited even if it weren’t my first time.  I just like to celebrate life!

You will notice that I took LOTS of pictures of the ride!  There is just so much history – in the distance you can see the first JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT in 1607 and replicas of the ships – Susan Constant and the Discovery.  I could almost imagine what that must have been like – what a struggle they went through!

If the ferry ride were not enough fun, there was even more in store at the festival.  There were 59 booths of fabulous crafts!  I HAD to buy my annual Christmas ornament – a little felted wool lamb!  (You will see a picture of the lambs hanging on a little Christmas tree at the booth.)  The vendors were all dressed in Colonial Costume and the weather was perfect!   Oh my – I just get excited recounting all of the fun.

And the food – every kind of fudge imaginable – crab cake sandwiches, delicious jams – yum.  One of the highlights was the tour through the Chippokes Plantation as well as the journey through the ORIGINAL KITCHEN BUILDING where they were cooking beans and yeast rolls over an open fire.  They churned butter……I can still call up the smells!  Those must have been the best rolls ever!

I took lots of pictures inside the house – I was just amazed at the woodworking.  They had mirrors almost on every wall.  I think the young girls learned IN SCHOOL how to place the mirrors so that different parts of the house were always in view.  Isn’t it interesting to think that men and women had separate parlors?  How times have changed.

The people were so friendly and nice and just the perfect number of people…..festive but not crowded.  This craft festival is going to go on my list of FAVORITE THINGS!

I am giving KUDOS to my GRETTA GARMIN NUVI  GPS – she got us where we needed to be and Marla and I would have been LOST BIG TIME a couple of times without her!  She even told us to GET OFF THE FERRY!  Too funny!

I hope you enjoy the pictures – and remember to click on the picture for a full view!

Colonial Piecemakers Quilt Guild November 2008 Meeting

Posted By on November 2, 2008

November 1 – we started the month of November with a lot of fun.  This was Marla’s first meeting since she joined the Williamsburg Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild.  We had so much fun visiting the white elephant table, looking at the block of the month for December, and picking up blocks to sew for the cancer patients.

We saw lots of beautiful SHOW AND TELLS and I was thrilled to show Sherry Whitford and the other guild meetings my finished BIRTH OF A SAMPLER QUILT!  Sherry taught the 9 month class and she was a fantastic A+ teacher.

Here are some pictures of some of our fun!  Remember to click on the pictures to see the full size!  Thanks to Kay for letting me take a close up picture of her name tag – now I am going to see if I can make mine!  🙂

A Couple of Things That Are Fun!

Posted By on October 29, 2008

I mentioned recently that I was looking for cookie jars to collect coins from the years of each of my grandangels’ births in.  Since Leanna (12) collects rubber duckies I wanted to find an antique duck cookie jar.  I searched EVERY SITE online – and FINALLY found a duckie cookie jar.  It is rather old and WORN – but that is why I love it so much!  It came from E-bay!  Here it is sitting amidst Leanna’s sea shell collection and it already has some coins from 1996 inside!

I love my tray from the Shaker Crafts Vendor at the Richmond Quilt Guild Show last week.

Here is my tray – I already have scissors and other sewing stuff nestled inside!  Oh yes, there just HAPPENS to be a cute little kitty inside too!

These things make my heart sing – don’t know why – they just make me FEEL GOOD!

Quilting Along – Quilters Corners BOM – Thimbleberries – Moda Selvages 2008

I have managed to get my MONTHLY assignments completed – it is kind of nice doing these projects that just require one thing to be accomplished each month.  Then after one year – voila – it seems as though a quilt appears in a relatively effortless way.

Here is my Thimbleberries block – I rather like this one!!!  I love the dimensional feel and the fabrics – notice the cute little bluebird!

I have had requests for an updated kitty report!  Goodness, it has been two whole days without pictures of the kitties!  Well, I was just waiting to be asked!  I just happened to have had a few more pictures!

The kitties are wonderful – very friendly and playful.  There aren’t too many things in this world that is better than watching kittens play!

HERE YOU GO….Hannah Fay, Daisy May, and Tonto – with Cuddles looking on!  Cuddles is all black – and Daisy May is on top – Tonto is inside the perch – and Hannah Fay is walking away!
