The final part of Step 6 of the Caroina Mystery Quilt was finished this evening. Four little corner triangles and 16 larger half square triangles. Now I can sit back and wait for Step 7. I will be in Kansas City, MO when this clue comes out – so I won’t actually be finishing this quilt top until the end of January.

Here are six (of the 16) 9 1/2″ Ohio Star Blocks for the Carolina Mystery Quilt. These are the correct blocks with the dark center. I am glad that I UNSEWED the incorrect ones, with the light center, and made them correctly. I say that NOW but I wasn’t too sure last night around midnight – when I sat FROGGING and telling myself that it was THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!!

As I understand it, there will be ONE MORE Step 7 and that step will reveal how the finished Carolina Mystery Quilt will be assembled. I think I am going to MISS the anticipation and the excitement of reading the chatgroups’ progress with each step along the way. This has truly been an international adventure.

I finally accomplished Step 6 – the Ohio Block of the Carolina Mystery Quilt. I don’t know yet how the final quilt will look (that is the MYSTERY!) but I am pleased with this block! I guess I should say that I am FINALLY PLEASED with this block. I accidently sewed light middles in the blocks and was ALL FINISHED when I discovered my error – so I had to FROGIT all 16 blocks and begin again. The pictured block, with the light center, is incorrect and no longer exists! LOL Alas, I am devloping patience (a virtue I am told) – in my not too distant past, I would have left the error – or started OVER completely rather than to rip.

I, along with hundreds of other quilters from parts far and wide, am anxiously waiting for Bonnie Hunter (quiltville.com) to post STEP 6 for the Mystery Quilt that she is leading us through, step by step. We are following her, with blind faith, diligently putting together tiny delightful blocks – hundreds of them – that we will hopefully piece together into our own personal Carolina Mystery Quilt Masterpiece. Here are my STEPS.
Step 1 – 100 1 1/2″ 3 rail fence blocks
Step 2 – 100 1 1/2″ nine patch blocks (accent corners)
Step 3 – 80 1 1/2″ nine patch blocks
Step 4 – 40 Little Pieced Triangles
Step 5 – 100 Hour Glass 3 1/2″ Blocks
