I am jumping up and down with happiness because we just got electricity – Irene really took some trees in the Midlothian/Richmond area.  I was beginning to think I would not be able to post my DESIGN WALL this time…..but ta da…..

I am binding……and who knows, now that I have electricity, I might even add something else to my DESIGN FLOOR!  🙂

Camp Loopy

I mentioned earlier that I was attending CAMP LOOPY this summer…..a virtual camp for knitters.

The first project was to knit something using two colors of yarn.  I made a ruffled scarf.

The second project was to knit a pair of socks using a cable stitch.  I was a PROJECT 2 DROP OUT although I did buy yarn and a pattern – oh yes, and needles.  I THOUGHT ABOUT KNITTING THE CABLE STITCH SOCKS.

I made an afghan using 5 skeins of yarn at once INSTEAD of the socks!

The third project was to knit something using 800 or more yards of yarn.  I made an afghan…..here it is with Grandangel Shirley Anne.

DD Christi and Grandangel Sarah got braces this week – this is truly TOGETHERNESS!

BEFORE…..

Christi and Sarah Before Braces

AFTER…..

Sarah and Christi - WITH BRACES

They are eating gingerly – slowly – and painfully – with visions of beautiful teeth dancing in their heads!!!!

Now that we have the braces on and have survived the earthquake in Virigina – we are now preparing for Hurricane Irene.

Grandangel Leanna is baking up a storm – if we lose power we will be able to eat cake…..chocolate and a double layer vanilla and LAVENDAR CAKE!  Yes…..I said lavendar!

Grandangel Leanna is baking cakes!

Grandangel Cooper is having fun PLAYING with the SOFT FOOD that does not need refrigeration for his mom and sister (you know, because of the braces!!!!)  I think we are prepared for Hurricane Irene…..we have water, diet coke, crackers, peanut butter, batteries, cash, flashlights, and candles..Check!  We even found an old PLUG IN PHONE that doesn’t work on electricity….Check!

Grandangel Cooper is PLAYING with the jello and the pudding!

AND….did I mention that CARMAX is one of my favorite places in the world?  Well they fixed my key pad/alarm system in my Ford/Escape and didn’t charge me.  NO MORE 20 minute ALARM FIASCOS in the parking lot of the Squirrels’ Games!!  OK – so the cars are filled with gasoline and all of them are working…..Check!

I love CARMAX

I hope everyone is prepared and stays safe with the arrival of HURRICANE IRENE tomorrow!

Where were you when the EARTHQUAKE HIT VIRGINIA?

Posted By on August 26, 2011

Catherine and I were in a quilt store in Gloucester, VA………and the earth shook……where were you when the earthquake hit Mineral, VA?  If you have to be in an earthquake, this was a good place to be.  The good thing is that we didn’t see any damage in Gloucester.

Catherine and I had a wonderful day exploring the antique shops and the quilt store in Gloucester.  Catherine found a WONDERFUL crib (perfect for displaying quilts!!)  She also found a high chair/combination potty chair……it was lots of fun!!!  I have to say that exploring antique stores is one of my FAVORITE THINGS TO DO!!!!

After the “excitement” of the earthquake we enjoyed the meeting of the Gloucester Quilt Guild – and Catherine WAS THE PROGRAM.  It was really interesting too.  Catherine developed a technique to run tear away stabilizer through the printer and then layer it into works of art.  As always, Catherine’s creativity and humorous delivery was a big hit!

What is on my Design Wall August 22, 2011?

My Challenge Quilt for the Colonial Williamsburg Quilt Guild is on my Design Wall.

This was the challenge for the 2011 quilt.  We had to close our eyes and draw two crayons out of a bag and those were the two colors that we were to use to design our own quilt.  I got ORANGE AND WHITE and since orange was my mother’s favorite color (and one of my least favorite colors – lol) I was CERTAIN that my mother dipped her hand down from heaven to choose those colors.  :):)  I am actually starting to like orange – and it isn’t a BAD COLOR – it is just that I grew up with EVERYTHING ORANGE – so I think that until recently I was operating on “orange overload.”  Seriously, the carpeting in the house was orange, the chairs and the sofa were orange……the drapes……you get the picture????  :):)

I named my Challenge Quilt  Marjorie’s Pumpkin Patch (my mother’s name….well Marjorie – not the pumpkin patch part!  🙂  It is theoretically finished but I will be adding a few more buttons this week.  It gets turned into the guild on September 2 so it is NO LONGER a secreat (but hey, I kept it a SECRET for almost a whole year and I figured that I can reveal it a bit early now.)  LOL

The Label

I very rarely do my own quilting – but I did this one myself.

I quilted this myself

I also thought I would share Shirley Anne’s quilt – she loves it and showed me that she had a special HIDING PLACE for it so it wouldn’t get shared with her FOUR BROTHERS!  Growing up with three brothers myself, I understand this perfectly!  🙂

Shirley Anne and the DANCING FAIRY STARS

She is pointing to the SHIRLEY POPPY FAIRY but her favorites are….ta da…. the apple blossom fairy……

….and the Sweet Pea Fairies!  Don’t you just LOVE IT when someone LOVES the quilts that you make?  It just makes me smile from ear to ear.
