Max is 80

Posted By on December 27, 2010

My DH Max had his 80th birthday on December 26th……and so we celebrated Christmas and then birthday!  Now you would THINK that a person would get to have a BIG CAKE for a BIG BIRTHDAY – but, in my defense, DH picked out the cake.    OK – so I have NO DEFENSE for the fact that he bought his own birthday cake…..but I did decorate it with the “80” with the icing that he bought!

Here is Max with his BIRTHDAY CAKE

Max had a WHITE BIRTHDAY

We enjoyed looking at the snow from our back patio……not everyone can have a WHITE BIRTHDAY!!!!!  He even got a serenade of Grandangels singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  (Kenzie is officially one of the angels along with Sarah and Leanna!)

Max's Choral Greeting Group

The angels created FROSTALINA – a SNOW GIRL and a cute little SNOW DOG for Max. It was a good birthday!

It is hard to see but the snow dog has cute little ears made from leaves!!!!

A FEW HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR CHRISTMAS

Posted By on December 27, 2010

Are you like me?  I love Christmas and enjoy EVERYTHING about the preparation, decoration, the music, the lights, the church service, the wrapping paper, the anticipation…..EVERYTHING EXCEPT ACCEPTING THAT IT IS OVER UNTIL NEXT YEAR!!!

We got an EXTRA SPECIAL TREAT THIS YEAR – a white Christmas!  Thank you to my grandangels who went outside in their bare feet to do the snow dance.  We got results!!!!

THE SNOW DANCE

The Christmas Cake

There were lots of good things being created in the kitchen but one of my favorites was the Christmas cake made by grandangels Leanna and Sarah!  It sure was cute – however I really don’t remember eating it!!!!

And you must admit that Sarah and my deviled egg looks pretty good – especially when it is smothered with black olives – Sarah REQUESTED 4 cans of sliced black olives for Christmas snacks!!!  I believe she might have eaten most of all of those four cans too.  Bacon and black olives are PROBABLY her favorite foods; well she likes raspberries too!

The BLACK OLIVE DEVILED EGG

But back to Christmas…..a family tradition is for someone to read TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS and this year it was my DD Christi’s turn…..it is the signal that everyone must go to bed and wait for Santa to arrive!!!!

Not a creature was stirring.....

Christmas Morning FINALLY Arrived

There were lots of smiles and squeals on Christmas morning (and that was just me!!!!)  I thought they would NEVER wake up!  I had to wait until 7 am!!!!

You will NOT believe this but SIL Greg and Grandangel Sarah got BACON SODA for Christmas ….. they both LOVE BACON!  (And just for the record I did NOT even taste it!)

Look who got BACON SODA

Grandangel Cooper was happy with his BOY TOYS!   And Kitty Oreo was happy with all of the boxes and the AIR HOCKEY TABLE!!!

A smiling boy with a boy toy!

Oreo loves the AIR HOCKEY TABLE

I was happy to receive the largest box of RUSSELL STOVER CANDY that I have ever seen from my DH Max………being from Kansas City I remain LOYAL to Russel Stover Candy!  WHOO HOOO  You really can’t tell how LARGE this box is from the picture…….

DH Max and Pepper are enjoyed the MUG with the cats picture on it…..Max’s Christmas request!!!

OH YES – and there is ONE picture of Max with me!!!!  He is happy because I just made him a Gingerbread Latte!

I hope my Mother was smiling down from Heaven as she watched over all of us – this is our first Christmas without her – and we miss her so much.  Thanks to SIL Kerry for making an ornament of Mother’s picture  that we put on our tree.

Beautiful James Center in Richmond

Posted By on December 22, 2010

Last night we went to the James Center and we really enjoyed the beauty of all of the Christmas decorations and lights.  There is just something VERY HAPPY about these family traditions!  There were more reindeer than I could count – and they were ever so cute!

That reindeer is taller than Sarah

There is something about ceilings that absolutely fascinate me…..isn’t this a pretty one?  I often ponder about how in the world they construct a dome of glass like this – several stories high!!!!

This is one of my FAVORITE CEILINGS EVER!

I think it would be  ever so much fun to go to work every day in the James Center.  If you had an office with glass walls  you would certainly need to maintain some semblance of neatness!

Glorious Sight

And of course we had to do some posing!  Grandangels Sarah and Leanna are the first sisters in FIVE GENERATIONS on my Mother’s side of the family!  So I am absolutely delighted by their sisterhood!  They are the BEST SISTERS EVER too!

Three Generations

Isn’t this a cute one of SIL Greg and the grandangels!  Cooper is even smiling!

On the way home we toured some of the homes in our neighborhood – and I am so happy that I was able to get a picture of the CHILDREN’S FAVOIRTE…..and I wonder what their electricity bill is!  It sure is a HAPPY HOUSE!

The Winner of the Children's Favorite

You know – now I am actually halfway glad that I LOST MY CAMERA – because my new Canon takes pretty good pictures (and it is RED TOO – you just have to LOVE a red camera!)  Thanks Dan and Fred for helping me pick out the camera and thanks to my DH Max for giving it to me for Christmas!

Ruby (the dog) didn’t mind that she didn’t get to go ooooh and aaaah over the lights – she was just happy that someone turned on the fireplace so that she could take a little snooze!  Isn’t it cute when they sleep with their legs in the air!!!!

Ruby enjoyed napping in front of the fire - LOVE IT!

I hope everyone is enjoying this glorious and blessed time of the year as much as I am!

Roll Roll Cotton Boll and Cotton Boll JR Clues 3 and 4

Posted By on December 20, 2010

Glory Oscar Zero – I finished Clues 3 and 4 for Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery Quilt –  Roll Roll Cotton Boll and Roll Roll Cotton Boll Jr.

*by the way – where on earth did I get this expression GLORY OSCAR ZERO – I have no clue!

Do you remember my basket of fabric strips that was literally OVERFLOWING?  Well look at it now!

The Scrap Basket is half empty - make that half full!

Here are my blocks all sewn and NOT  TRIMMED.  I wish I would have taken Bonnie’s advice and trimmed and de-papered a few at a time – because doing all 120 at once took me THREE MOVIES!!!  🙂  I stopped halfway through to take a picture!!!

Some of the blocks before trimming

AND TA DA – here it is……

120 Paper Pieced Blocks – all trimmed, de-papered and ready  (I can hardly believe it myself!)

sao's 120 CLUE 3

And then I made my blocks for Clue 4……..thank goodness this was easy and fast!  The colors on these blocks for ROLL ROLL COTTON BOLL JR  are  a bit OFF – because it looks like the colors are blue and peach – and actually they are blue and cream and/or beige!!!

Roll Roll Cotton Boll Jr

AND NOW FOR ROLL ROLL COTTON BOLL JR CLUE 4

Roll Roll Cotton Boll Clue 4

And what comes next?  1200 Half Square Triangles for TWO Clue 5.  This is really fun, though!  I love a challenge and it is great fun anticipating what this quilt will look like.  I KNOW I WILL LIKE IT BECAUSE BONNIE DOES NOT DESIGN LESS-THAN-SPECTACULAR QUILTS!

Catherine and I – SNOWED IN IN NORFOLK

Posted By on December 18, 2010

Catherine – met my flight in Norfolk as I was coming home from Kansas City – and due to the SNOWSTORM we holed up and had a wonderful IMPROMPTU 2 day retreat!

We had fun kicking back – working on projects – eating ice cream and of course there was lots of giggling and gabbing going on!  Catherine tea-dyed the dishcloth that I knitted and made a pincushion from it – talk about being creative!  I took pictures of the tea dying process so I could remember how to do it and get a marbled look (in case you wondered why I took so many pictures!!!)

Catherine finished her Spiderweb Quilt – and even quilted it herself – that really is awesome and NOT an easy thing to do!  It has inspired me to THINK about working on my spiderweb quilt!!!!

THANKS CATHERINE!!! I think I could get used to SNOWED IN RETREATS!!!  I hope you enjoy the pictures (taken with Catherine’s camera because someone – not mentioning any names – took the WRONG camera CHARGER with her to Kansas City and wouldn’t have had a camera to take pictures at all if Catherine hadn’t come to this poor soul’s rescue!)
