JBA turns 89 December 8, 2010

Posted By on December 18, 2010

The Albertson clan (and sprouts from the clan)  gathered in Kansas City to celebrate my daddy’s birthday – he was 89 years young last week!  What an inspiration he is to us all.  He is doing amazingly well after his TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT this summer!  I was impressed by his joyful spirit – and his  wit too – he gave us all quite a few giggles….!  Thanks to EVERYONE who  sent cards and called – it really made the birthday celebration lots of fun!

We really had a great time – multiple birthday celebrations – including a trip to Cascone’s (our favorite Italian restaurant in KC) and a drive through the Plaza to see the Christmas lights.  We also enjoyed watching the snow fall!  Yes,  I got to see Kansas City SNOW this year!

Daddy even gave me an organ concert and impressed us all with his feats of memory…..I don’t know anyone else who can spout off phone numbers like he can – including the number of his pharmacy!  WOW!

Here are a FEW pictures to highlight the birthday celebration!  We were happy to all be together, but of course we missed having Mother with us too.

PS – and that is my brother Fred with the HUGE piece of birthday cake – I have to say that Elaine makes a great carrot cake *my favorite too!

Roll Roll Cotton Boll Step 3

Isn’t this paper piecing fun?  I was standing tonight – patiently waiting for my DH to FINISH reading the paper so that I could have some more newsprint to sew on!!!!  🙂

I believe that this is the first time that Bonnie Hunter (www.quiltville.com) – or any of the other mystery quilt hostesses, for that matter – have ever had a step where we did paper piecing *at least not since I have been participating….and I will have been quilting FOUR years as of March, 2011!  It really is fun!  What I am enjoy the most is the MEMORIES…..every strip of fabric has a story – “this went into Sarah’s first quilt….and that went into my parent’s bedspread quilt….etc.”

It has taken a lot of will power to DO WHAT BONNIE HAS ASKED US TO DO and that is to use ALL of our stash – even the wild prints on light fabric.  Once I talked myself into it I am enjoying.  There is such a good feeling that comes with using up scraps of fabric.  I sure am making a mess though – that is for sure!

LOOK AT MY BASKET OF SCRAPS…….and I will post a picture after I finish my 120 *yes 120 8 1/2″ square blocks!  Remember I am making ROLL ROLL COTTON BOLL and ROLL ROLL COTTON BOLL JR!

SNOW SNOW SNOW

If you KNOW me you KNOW that I LOVE SNOW.  It is on my list of FAVORITE THINGS – probably a tie between RAIN and SNOW.  I just love to watch things fall from the sky *nice things, that is.  AND – did you ever notice that it SNOWS on my BLOG year round – yes even in the summer.

AND TONIGHT IT SNOWED FOR THE FIRST TIME – OOOOOOH how wonderful.  I just took a lot of pictures so you could share in the fun!
