HIP HOP – A Holiday Happening

Posted By on December 4, 2010

Grandangels Sarah and Cooper participated in the 16th ANNUAL HOLIDAY HAPPENING last night.  Oh how cute!  Yes, of course I cried – because I always do when they do anything special (OK OK I cry even when it isn’t special – but it just makes me happy to see them doing – well ANYTHING!

The pictures aren’t wonderful because the lighting in the church wasn’t congruent with the talents of my camera *and the operator….but you will get a flavor of the fun!

OH YES – and MR. CLICKER went to see the performance!  🙂

Colonial Piecemakers December 2010

Posted By on December 4, 2010

OH MY was this Colonial Piecemaker’s Meeting *Williamsburg, VA* ever an event to be remembered.  The Colonial Piecemakers had lots of inspiring show and tells AND our annual fabric exchange game followed by a FEAST….and I mean FEAST in all CAPS!

Thanks to CATHERINE ( in all caps) after being in the guild for two years I finally have a name tag!  Catherine made it for me *and she made one for Margaret and one for herself too) from silk ties…..talk about creativity.  I love my name tag…..and it has snowmen on it – I LOVE SNOWMEN!  THANK YOU CATHERINE!!!!!

Everyone had a lot of fun doing the fabric exchange……..I enjoyed watching and taking pictures……and I think everyone came away with fabric treasures!

Be sure to notice the little TRAY that Catherine made for her crackers that she baked especially for the feast!!!!  AND WE ALL ENJOYED CATHERINE’S STAND UP COMEDY both during her product demo and during her drawing for the BLOCK OF THE MONTH give away!   I think the general consensus is that she should go on stage – and I don’t mean the first one out of town!!!

It was all SO MUCH FUN….I just love this guild.  Our PRESIDENT *notice that I am NOT mentioning any names in a public place* did an Eleanor Burns trick – notice the little slips of paper that were TOSSED on the floor!  🙂

Enjoy the pictures and remember to click twice to enlarge the pictures!  AND – believe it or not the last picture is my FOOD…..oh my – can you believe that I ate the whole thing?  Well, it is true!  OK – well, I did share half of my gingerbread muffin with Margaret!

Thanksgiving and Decorating for Christmas 2010

Posted By on November 28, 2010

If  you aren’t family you might want to skip this – but I promised several members of my family that I would post a few pictures of Thanksgiving and Christmas decorating time……

Decorating for the holiday is always on my  LIST OF FAVORITE THINGS.  It is so much fun to unpack the decorations and see our “TREASURES.”  It is like opening presents – and there are always surprises because there are usually things that I FORGOT we had from last year (OK – well, it could be age related but I prefer to think of it as a SURPRISE FACTOR that everyone experiences….:))

Lights on houses just PLAIN OLD MAKES ME HAPPY!   Does anyone else have this much fun decorating and LOOKING at the lights and saying OOOOH and AAAAH?  Seriously, I could just skip all of the presents and just enjoy the time of celebration – but it is a birthday party for Christ – so I guess we need to include presents….:)

Here are a few pictures……it was fun – and it is hard to believe that tomorrow we all go back to school and work!

Roll Roll Cotton Boll Step 2 AND FRIED DRESSING

Posted By on November 28, 2010

Be sure you read to the end of this post to HEAR about my new recipe…..there is NO PICTURE of my FRIED DRESSING because I accidently burned it a little and it wasn’t pretty – BUT IT WAS REALLY TASTY!!

Step 2 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll AND Roll Roll Cotton Boll JR has been completed.  So far doing two mystery quilts at a time is working out to be AOK.  (Much better than knitting two socks at a time….LOL!!)

Here are the little pieces anxiously awaiting CLUE #3 to be posted Dec. 3 I think!!!  (The pink and brown pieces are for RRCotton Boll Jr and the RASPBERRY and brown pieces are for Roll Roll Cotton Boll.)

AND…..do you like to try new things?  I like to MAKE UP things in the kitchen….REALLY.  Well, here is my latest new thing.  We have lots of dressing left over (my cornbread dressing has cranberries, apples and pecans in it) AND I had a craving for olive oil (go figure – yesterday it was dark chocolate and today it is olive oil!)   So I put some olive oil in a pan and FRIED SLICES OF DRESSING.  OH MY GOODNESS – you would not believe how good it was!

ARE YOU GOING TO TRY IT?

VIRGINIA SCRAPPERS November 2010

Posted By on November 27, 2010

Five of us – Catherine, Catherine, Vonnie, Joanne and sao had some good quiet (sometimes) relaxing fun doing our creative projects and laughing all the way!

Vonnie was working on a fabulous baby afghan – I just have to get this pattern!

Catherine SB made great progress on her four patches for a later project and shared a new handbag  – Joanne finished binding a quilt – and Catherine E worked on her precious SCOTTY pillowcases!  I had a great time  BINDING except for having an intense (sometimes painful)  reoccurring craving for dark chocolate!!

WHY?  Well………CATHERINE offered me a bit of dark chocolate – and not just ANY CHOCOLATE but a LADY GODIVA DARK CHOCOLATE WITH MINT….only to find out that she had filled the EMPTY TIN with her beads.  Her Scotty Pillowcases look great with the beads sewn on – however we were both a bit surprised that the CANDY WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND!

Another “FUNNY” thing happened today.  A woman from the church was working in the kitchen and when I walked through  she asked if she could help.

I said that I was looking for the SODA MACHINE (and she said they didn’t have one but she didn’t live far and she could go home and get one for me – but it only did straight stitching!)

She thought I has asked for a SEWING MACHINE.  After I stopped laughing and explained that I wanted a SODA MACHINE….she laughed too and admitted that she thought I was a bit STRANGE for coming to a sew day and asking for a sewing machine!!!!!  :):)

My big accomplishment is that I EMPTIED MY BINDING CHAIR (except for my Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilt and Catherine said that I didn’t have to count it because binding that was an entire other project!!!!)

MY BINDING CHAIR IS EMPTY – and that was one of my goals for 2010.   MY BINDING CHAIR IS EMPTY!!!!!!  Sorry, I just have to say it one more time because it is a great accomplishment – MY BINDING CHAIR IS EMPTY. I was going to take a picture of it but decided you could  take my word for it!

Today I finished binding my Scrappy Chiclet Quilt and a 30’s BABY QUILT to be donated to the JOHNSTON WILLIS  ICU.

We missed our friends today who were still out eating turkey, visiting with family, shopping or engaging in other activities!  Next month we meet December 18th!
