Leanna’s First HS Homecoming 2010

Posted By on October 2, 2010

Well, I doubt if there are too many people who cry at a HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING PARADE but I must say I did.  My grandangel, Leanna, helped build her freshman float for the Homecoming parade – and I was just so happy and excited and proud that I just stood there and cried (MAYBE THAT IS WHY SOME OF THE PICTURES ARE BLURRY – you really should try to keep the camera steady when taking pictures!!!)

AND GUESS WHAT…. the freshman class WON the best float honor…….that RARELY HAPPENS and I heard a few seniors grumbling about that outcome throughout the night!  🙂

I nearly froze to death at that game – but it was all worth it – a memory forever embedded in my heart.  What a party – we had popcorn, peanuts, coke, hot chocolate, donuts and sour candy.  *Hey we HAD to go to the concession stand to keep warm!  🙂

Here are my pictures of the parade.  My grandangel, Leanna, is the one wearing an antennae with white cupcake papers on the end!  🙂  OH YES, the game was good, and by the way, we won the game!

Pat Speth SMALL WONDERS Workshop Sept 30, 2010

Posted By on October 2, 2010

I learned SO MUCH at the Pat Speth SMALL WONDERS WORKSHOP!  We even braved wind, rain, floods, and threats of hurricanes – or was it tornadoes – to be at this class!  Quilters are quite dedicated to their activities!  It was worth it!

It is really nice to have a nationally known writer and teacher come all the way from Minnesota to teach us!  She brought lots of beautiful quilts and demonstrated wondrous techniques.  Not only  is Pat a good teacher, but she is also VERY NICE and we all had lots of fun!

Almost all of Pat’s quilts  are made from 5″ squares – it is quite amazing to see all of the variety of combinations that can result from 5″ squares.  I took some close up pictures of some of her quilts.

Pat Speth has four quilt books – NICKEL QUILTS, MORE NICKEL QUILTS, AMAZING NICKEL QUILTS and NICKEL QUILTS AND BORDERS – and I am not SURE these are the correct titles but they are CLOSE to the correct titles!

Here are some of the pictures of our activities.  Catherine, my BBuggyFF, and I both are making the ALL THAT GLITTERS QUILT from her first NICKEL QUILTS BOOK!  Please note that my dear sister and friend, Bonnie, DID NOT escape my camera, although I must admit that she did made a vallant attempt!!!  IN MY HUMBLE DEFENSE, once I was innocently taking a picture of Dave trying to put a new bulb into Bonnie’s BEAUTIFUL SINGER FEATHERWEIGHT and she just happened to be in the background – really!!!!

I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Tent Camping in VA BEACH Sept 24 – 26, 2010

Posted By on September 26, 2010

We spent the last three days camping in Virginia Beach  and it has been LOTS OF FUN!  Here are a few of the highlights of my birthday trip….thanks to my DD Christi – she is such a great organizer and she had fun and food planned for our camping party!   My SIL took the coffee maker – YEAH – and we got a campsite with electricity so we had FANS  inside our tent…….isn’t that just FUNNY!

We had fabulous campfires under a full moon *yes even though we could still tell that the heat of summer had not gone away we had a blazing campfire!  The grandangels (and the rest of us) had so much fun making smores (I got all of the burned marshmallows!)  We also had hot dogs,  pop corn popped over an open flame and there was plenty of tree climbing!  Grandangels, like some cats, sometimes can get up a tree but have difficulty getting down.  I staged a rescue or two.  I even tried to lead a few camp songs and even attempted a few jokes……:)  Since it was my birthday camping trip the family pretended that I was funny!

We took a walk around the campsite – spent lots of time at the beach – ate GREAT FOOD (including coffee, chocolate pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast!  YUM!)   We even went to the Neptune Festival – had SNOW CREAM and rode a family bicycle along the beach!  We made POOR GREG walk back from one end of the beach because without his weight it was SO MUCH easier to peddle….LOL.  I think his first mistake was getting OUT to take a picture and that was the end of his ride…….hey, our legs were getting tired!  🙂

I think the BEACH FLIES love Calgon because they kept biting my feet!!!  I also lost my WHITE HAIR POOFY and Greg had to stage a rescue – so much excitement!  I took a few pictures….:)

I hope you enjoy the pictures of our camping trip!   Our dog, Ruby, sure was glad to see us and be returning home!

sao’s QUILTY FINISHES

Posted By on September 13, 2010

Hallelujah – I finished binding two quilts – MIRACLE UPON MIRACLES!  I am doing the happy dance!  I will be taking a picture of my BINDING CHAIR – just as soon as the stack goes down just a little bit more.  LOL  (For those of you who don’t know – I have a chair in my closet where I stack – well, I sort of hide them – the quilts that need to be bound.  Out of sight – but not out of mind!!!)

I am SO HAPPY to have finished my PEACEFUL HOURS QUILT.  It was my oldest UFO.  Thanks to Susan of Quilter’s Corner for choosing the fabric – long ago (well, I started quilting in 2007 – so I guess it wasn’t THAT long ago! )   🙂

Peaceful Hours

AND TA DA – my Pumpkins Gone Wild wall hanging is finished too.  It is my first hand quilted project – and I was inspired to DECORATE FOR HALLOWEEN – yes, it is on my wall!

Colonial Piecemaker’s Retreat – Williamsburg, 2010

Posted By on September 13, 2010

The Colonial Piecemakers Quilt Guild celebrated quilting, eating, laughing, jewelry making, shopping – well, you name it because ANYTHING can happen on a quilt retreat!  Catherine even staged a birthday celebration for me!!

I was truly inspired by the beautiful works of art – and that is what I saw being created this past weekend.  EVERYONE was so productive.  I took lots of pictures – and believe it or not there were many MORE but some of them were not clear (and it DOES really help if one remembers to CHARGE the camera batteries!)

I hope you enjoy the photos of blocks, pillowcases, bags, and quilts in progress as well as some of the SHOW AND TELL – one of my favorite parts!  Take note – Catherine made 17 – yes SEVENTEEN Scotty Pillowcases – and even put in prairie points.  The back corner gang upstairs – made some spectacular  exchange blocks – it was inspiring!  And yes, the RUMOR is true – Lorraine birthed a baby on retreat!

It was lots of fun getting to know people even better!
