Remember The Cigar Boxes of Yesteryear?

Do you remember in the OLDEN DAYS when we got a new cigar box at the beginning of each year? For those of you too young to relate, we used these cigar boxes for our pencils, erasers, Crayolas, scissors and glue! I am NOT SURE WHY we used cigar boxes but I am assuming it was because they were the right size, they were free, and there weren’t plastic alternatives at the time. For WHATEVER reason, I have a nice memory of cigar boxes and had wanted one for my adult self!!!! We always have STUFF that we need to put somewhere!!
This is what most of my GROWING UP CIGAR BOXES were like – without the cigars. 🙂
My friend Catherine found three wonderful ones and she gave them to me! And they aren’t just your everyday cigar box of the past! LOOK!
This one is made of wood and the top slides open……fun!
Yesterday – at an outdoor flea market in the Savage Mill Mall (Savage, Maryland) I found this black wooden box. I didn’t realize there were so many varieties of cigar boxes around! Pretty cool and only $1.
OH MY – did you KNOW that people collect cigar boxes I didn’t. You can sure LEARN A LOT if you GOOGLE! I was also unaware that cigar box art was a big thing! I even saw one label on sale for $450. Yes, I got the decimal in the correct place….that is FOUR HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS. HM……I think the labels are cute – but I am going to settle for looking at them online. 🙂
I ADORE, ADORE, ADORE boxes and bins and baskets and shelves and stow away places, makes me feel so very cool and in control, doesn’t happen all that often but what fun when it works!!!!!!! I especially love all the sizes and finishes and versatility the cigar boxes provide, something for everyone and everything!!!!!!!
