I am now piecing the BACK for my Orca Bay – Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery Quilt. I finished piecing the top this week! I call this one ORCA BAY 1. (I am making my FAVORITE style back for the quilt….12 1/2″ squares…..I am using gold, white, red, and blue blocks. It takes a bit of time to piece the back but I am discovering that these are the quilts that I LOVE – the plain back ones just don’t grab my heart in the same way. )
Here is Orca Bay 2 (I have shown this before but I want you to tell me which one you like the best!) One I will keep and the other I will donate or give away. Three of my 17 grandangels are still quiltless…..can you believe it?
This week I will be sewing 1 1/2″ strips together to make the EASY STRATA STAR table topper quilt. If you want the pattern, I put a link for the website to order the pattern….the picture below is from that link. Here is the Bayside Quilting Store’s Easy Strata Star picture.

Here are my strips that need to be sewn together for the Strata Star. I keep rearranging the order!!!! I think this is the order that I will use.
If you want to see what quilters around the country have on their design walls – here is Judy Laquidara’s link (she has a new book out on borders and is taking pre-orders for autographed copies now!)

#1 is my choice. I think it is the gold that makes it stand out for me. Really very nice work on both of them.
I like the gold one best. Can’t wait to see your strata star.
I like the one with the green the best….
I like number 1 best. Can’t believe you did TWO of these, I’m still working through one.
I’d be really hard pressed to pick which Orca Bay to keep, but if forced, I guess I’d pick the one with the gold. They’re both beautiful.
LOVE the color scheme on the gold one! I am about to start on the Orca Bay journey myself!
Two Orca Bays! Wow! I think I like #1 best and I think it’s because of that classic red, white, blue and gold color-way. You sure make beautiful projects! LOVE that star too!
You amaze me. TWO Orca Bay tops complete! Wow! They are both lovely but I really love the top one with the blue, red and gold.
I too think they are both beautiful, but am leaning toward #1 as the favorite. I didn’t do this, but have seen what everyone else has been doing and I can’t believe that you did 2 of them AND managed to stay sane!
I love the gold in your Orca bay! And yes I agree a pieced back just feels better doesn’t it?
The red/white/blue and gold one is my favorite that I’d pick to keep for myself. I think it’s very patriotic! 🙂
That is a tough call…they are both awesome! I guess I would prefer the first one because I am developing a fondness for gold/yellow
WOW, two? I haven’t even printed the pattern yet, let alone started the project! My favorite is No. 1. I think it’s the contrast that I like the best. Great job!
The green in the second quilt just makes it pop for me – and does not present as Christmas so really could be used all year. The red/blue/gold quilt is very patriotic looking – they are both beautiful “WOW” quilts, so I am not voting. You may need to let the recipient pick because both qualify as a treasure. Judy C
love your Orca challenge quilts, just beautiful. Is one of them for me?????
Wish it was. Missed you at the last meeting.
Wow! two Orca Bay !!! The first is almost same colours as mine 🙂
They are both beautiful, but I think I like the top one best. Either one will be a treasure.
You made two!!! Wow. They are both beautiful. Congratulations.
I can’t believe you actually finished two… I was scrambling to get one done. They are both gorgeous. I would probably keep the top one, with the gold. Nice work!
