FINISHED MY PINK MILKY WAY QUILT TOP

Posted By on January 21, 2011

I know it looks like I have been really productive lately but this quilt and others that I have recently finished were started a year or two ago. I started PINK MILKY WAY TWO YEARS AGO and I finally got the top completed……it is all made from 2 1/2 inch and 4 1/2 inch strips of fabric and is a pattern that Augusta Cole gave us at one of her CUTTING BEE Extravaganzas!

By the way,  Augusta Cole’s next CUTTING BEE  is January 29th – can’t wait!  She might have room for someone else – let me know and I will give you the information if you are interested.

Here is my PINK MILKY WAY!  ( guess I really could have come up with a more creative title.)   And I wish that I could say that this looked better in person .. but it really doesn’t…..:):)  It looks a lot better using scrappy and multiple colors!

THIS IS MY #6 on my UFO CHALLENGE for Patchwork Times……YEAH – I am keeping up so far *but then it is only January!!!  🙂

WHOLE FOODS and SIT AND STITCH – Quilter’s Corner – January 21, 2011

Posted By on January 21, 2011

It was a wonderful day today……Catherine, John and I went to WHOLE FOODS for breakfast prior to our Sit and Stitch Day at Quilters Corner.

AGAIN – WHOLE FOODS  was just wonderful!  I took a picture of the sign that listed the 30 top super healthy foods and I got 17 of these foods in my salad/lunch box that I got to go!   I sure do feel healthy tonight too!  How many of these food did you eat today?

SUPER FOODS

I noticed that my fork was a bit deformed and it gave me a chuckle…..I thought about selling it on EBAY – you know people are always buying potato chips in the shape of something – but I decided to just USE THE FORK to eat my tofu (which I highly recommend – it was the best tofu that I have ever eaten!)

Deformed Fork

John claimed he had a deformed fork too *see John holding up his spoon?

John's Deformed Fork

*see Catherine suggesting that John should be nice…..

BE NICE!

That was only the beginning of our fun.

We had every table and chair occupied at Quilter’s Corner and everyone had GREAT SHOW AND TELLS TODAY…… just look.

The antique quilts were wonderful and I think they all belonged to Dawn.

I wonder if one day – maybe 100 years from now – some quilters will find some of OUR QUILTS and swoon over them!!!!

I got my Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt out and Catherine showed me how to bind it………OH AM I EVER GOING TO HAVE FUN THE NEXT FEW DAYS AT THE QC RETREAT!

Here is my FUTURE ANTIQUE QUILT….. I just love the way Sara Parrish quilted it for me!  MAYBE – just MAYBE I will have a lot of the binding finished by Sunday!

My Grandmother's Flower Garden

And I don’t think this will ever be an antique; however today I finished my New Year’s Eve Mystery 2010 designed by Ann Smith – it was our fabricaholics group mystery.  I really like it and was pleased with the Moda HOLLY JOLLY fabrics that I used in it…..they had been just waiting in my stash for something special!!!

I finished my NYE MYSTERY

I thought this Scotty Fabric in Catherine’s Disappearing Nine Patch Quilt was so cute….isn’t it unique?

Catherine worked on her Disappearing Nine Patch

Catherine ALWAYS has CREATIVE UNIQUE things to share.  Today she began burning the spiders off the embroidered backing for her SPIDERWEB QUILT.  I had never seen anything like this – it was like magic…..the backing just melted away and left those spider legs in tact!

Catherine is BURNING her spiders

I think  Cathy’s Thirties Something Quilt is beautiful.  After seeing hers (and previously having admired Marla’s) I think this just MIGHT be the next quilt of mine that I finish!

Love Cathy's Thirties Something Quilt

OK – so all day I rehearsed the names of some new friends….. Cindy and Kelly…… they are sisters and I think I had a good way to keep it all figured out .  Kelly I associated with GREEN for Kelly Green and she was wearing a pink shirt…..so I thought about a colorful shirt which made me think of GREEN which made me think of Kelly – this made perfect sense to me!  And, by the way it worked.

……..but alas now I am confused…..is this quilt the FIRST ONE EVER MADE by Cindy or is it Kelly’s first quilt?  One thing that I am sure of is that I LIKE IT!!!

FIRST QUILT

And now for the quilt that made me gasp – can you see the hand quilting on this?  The stitches are perfect!!!  Pat taught me to HAND QUILT – maybe some day my quilting will look like this…..I just have to keep practicing!

Here is another one of Pat’s Quilt……. I think it is so pretty!

Dawn is going to hand quilt this one……oh my – this is just SO INSPIRING!  I just love this one – the rich butternut fabrics just give me the chills…

Dawn's Quilt

….and her WHEN PIGS FLY mini tote just makes me smile!  I SURE SMILED A LOT TODAY…….:)

Friends and Apple Jars

Posted By on January 21, 2011

Have you ever been so lucky as to have a friend who saw that you wanted something – and saw that you left it behind BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T REALLY NEED IT – and went back to the store later to buy it for you?

Catherine and I were at HOME GOODS last week and I saw this wonderful set of jars with RED APPLE LIDS.  I didn’t buy the jar – I wanted it,  but decided it was a WANT and not a NEED so I walked away.  I have thought of that jar OVER AND OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS – and even thought about driving all the way back to HOME GOODS to get it – but didn’t!  I dreamed about that jar last night!

Well , today I shared with my friend Catherine how much I regretted not getting that jar – and she lamented her LACK OF FRIENDSHIP…..else she would have bought it for me.  WELL LO AND BEHOLD SHE DID….it was on my table when I got to Quilter’s Corner today where we gathered for SIT AND STITCH.

NEEDLESS TO SAY I SURE WAS SURPRISED AND HAPPY!

My Apple Jar

Isn’t my APPLE JAR CUTE!  Isn’t Catherine a wonderful friend!!!

I am REALLY NOT THAT HUNGRY

I honestly DO NOT KNOW why I love looking at food – I just think it is beautiful – artistic – colorful…….and I KNOW that this is STRANGE but  I just want to take a picture of food that I think is beautiful……..

Catherine and I went to SHORT PUMP – I just had to get my TEJAVA TEA at Trader Joes!  That area is just as much fun as Disneyland for me……WHOLE FOODS, TRADER JOES, HOBBY LOBBY, HOMEGOODS and more.

We started at 8 am………..and hit WHOLE FOODS FIRST – oh my, the food was just SO GOOD that it made me swoon!  LOOK!!!  Isn’t this colorful?

COLORFUL

…..there’s more……all of these foods – so artfully displayed – are on the list of the TOP 30 SUPER FOODS!

…and this was something new for me – a HONEY DISPENSER……..and I almost bought some honey just so I could pull that handle and fill a bear!  🙂  Catherine thought it was pretty cool too!

A honey dispenser?

…and now for our Breakfast/Lunch…..however shall I choose what to eat.  This is HEALTHY FOOD and beautifully displayed!   In the foreground are BLACK LENTILS – I had never seen black ones before!

What shall I eat?

.. everything was so pristine and beautiful that I hated to take a spoonful out!

YUM

…. AND LOOK AT THIS – these colors together would make a beautiful quilt – don’t you think?

This is a work of art!

… I got so excited about the food that I almost didn’t take a picture of Catherine’s NECKLACE…….she never ceases to amaze me with her talent and creativity.  She MOLDED that form on her necklace – it is decorative on BOTH SIDES TOO!

Catherine's work of art

… I went to SHORT PUMP to get TEJAVA TEA at Trader Joes (my favorite) but while I was at WHOLE FOODS I tried HONEST TEA and it was good too!

HONEST TEA

Catherine and I were so enamored with WHOLE FOODS and the wonderful food that before we KNEW IT it was 10:20 (that is how GOOD THAT PLACE IS.)  OK – so WHOLE FOODS is going on my list of FAVORITE THINGS and I can’t wait to go back to eat there again!

We dashed through HOME GOODS and TRADER JOES – and did a SLOW DASH through Hobby Lobby!  🙂  I got supplies for my Colonial Piecemaker’s CRAYON CHALLENGE QUILT.  My assignment is to make a quilt using only two colors – orange and white……so this will really be quite a challenge.

Here is my BEFORE PICTURE OF MY CHALLENGE QUILT!

My CRAYON QUILT

Finally we went to visit Karen – and we had a wonderful time!  She showed us her new toy – a computerized quilting machine.  Catherine is excited because Karen can quilt SCOTTY DOGS!  I took a picture of Karen with the quilt that Catherine and I made her when she had brain surgery on the back of her chair.

Karen with her quilt

…..and of course I had to take a picture of Catherine and Karen’s BABY!

SO CUTE

If you give a mouse a cookie…..

Posted By on January 18, 2011

I have been feeling a little bit like that mouse in the story ‘IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE….”  you know – one thing just leads to another and the excitement and fascination is never ending…..  This happens every time I go to FRESH MARKET – it is on my list of FAVORITE THINGS!

I am at a loss to explain this but I actually get emotional  when I go to FRESH MARKET…..in fact I usually end up crying because I feel so happy when I am there!  I cried Sunday – maybe it was the music – or the sample of MOLTEN CHOCOLATE COFFEE?  Fresh Market also reminds me of California and I get a bit nostalgic……I don’t know.  I went there Sunday to buy my DH an apple pie…….

…..but when I got there I had to take a picture of the flowers because they reminded me that flowers were probably blooming in California….

Flowers at Fresh Market

….and then I had to take a picture of the burlap bags – they were so cute…….but since I had gone to the Fresh Market to buy a pie, I couldn’t rationalize buying a bag………

Love burlap bags...

….  when I got inside the store and saw the wasabi peas I just couldn’t help myself  *and even though I was ONLY going to buy a pie, I just really needed those peas…….they just make my eyes water and I love them!  In fact I love horseradish alone – even without the peas!!!

I have a passion for wasabi peas

….and remembering that I had gone JUST FOR A PIE I journeyed on but got distracted by the sweet potato cakes…..they are SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD so I just couldn’t leave them at the store now, could I?

Love these sweet potato cakes

…. on the way to get the pie I saw these cherries *my DH loves cherries and so do I – and they were $2.00 off…..so I just couldn’t pass them up…..

Beautiful cheeries - makes my heart sing

and…..yes, I did get the pie and you will NOT BELIEVE THIS but I got the LAST APPLE PIE on the table……that was a close one!  Max and I LOVE Fresh Market’s apple pie……………
