Shopping in PA 2011
Posted By drsao on March 20, 2011
I think our shopping adventures in PA were as much fun as the AQS Quilt show. Everything was priced AMAZINGLY LOW – it was just a never ending wonderland for quilters in search of fabric……
and yes….I did take a few photos! Our first stop was Weaver’s Warehouse….isn’t it wonderful. It is a BIG OLE RED BARNLIKE WAREHOUSE (not heated) filled with fabric, buttons, books, thread and trims. It was so much fun to see all of the colors and textures – they had EVERYTHING under the sun! I even got a package of needle threaders for 10 cents!
And then we went to Zooks and The Old Country Store…….yes, in Intercourse, PA.
We always enjoy the Lancaster Bead Company Store….and I got two beautiful green beads that became my St. Pat’s Day earrings! Catherine found LOTS of goodies!
Sauders may have been my favorite place this year…..they had FOLDS of fabric for $2.49 a yard (and there was a discount on top of that – 10 or 15%….can’t remember which) …. isn’t that unbelievable!
I had to chuckle at all of the quilter bikes parked outside Sauders…..LOVE THOSE CARDBOARD BOX BASKETS!!! 🙂
And WAY OUT in the countryside (with cows right beside the quilt shop) was Burkholders. Oh my, they had the largest variety of fabrics….I don’t think I have ever seen so many bolts of 30’s fabrics in one place! Isn’t this just EYE CANDY!
I really enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs IN THE SUNSHINE outside Burkholders too! We will definitely return there next year – I think it was Catherine’s favorite.
Speaking of Catherine – the button on my shoe popped off and Catherine sewed it back on for me. She can do anything….but take a look at how the needle got bent sewing through the leather!!
Doesn’t this just take your breath away? It is Catherine’s shirt – in progress – love the hand dyed fabrics on the t-shirt. This was one of the ROOM PROJECTS that we worked on!
I HAD to take a picture of Catherine’s bracelet – yes she made it. REALLY striking.
OK – and what is a trip to PA without a stop at an ANTIQUE STORE….we chose Adams and it was WONDERFUL. I saw SO MANY THINGS that I would have liked to have brought home!!!
It was HUMONGOUS….I took one picture….
Well, I guess I took TWO PICTURES……look at this antique quilt (no I didn’t buy it!)
I wonder if any of my quilts will end up in an antique store 100 years from now? Love the colors and the way that the quilters put WHAT THEY HAD INTO THE QUILT – no matter if all of the fabrics in one block matched or not!!!
LOTS OF FUN….and I did buy ONE wooden crutch that I will use as a quilt rack (I will post a picture when it gets put up on the wall!)
I have loved seeing everything through yours and Catherine’s pictures. I will say this, you do look a little “tuckered out” – so hope you did take good care of yourself. What a wonderful time y’all had. Judy C
Boy, do we know how to have a grand time or what??????? Can’t imagine squeezing even a single mo’ bit o’ fun and discovery that we did, we just made it happen and now have the tales to tell AND show, oh my, the treasures we found, CANNOT wait to play and create and share and simply enjoy forevermore…………….
