What’s on my Design Floor, Monday, December 19, 2011

Posted By on December 19, 2011

I missed DESIGN WALL Monday last week – I was in Kansas City helping my daddy celebrate his 90th birthday – but I AM BAAAACK now….and I have been sewing up a storm.

Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery Quilt Orca Bay (I am making two – Orca Bay  1 and Orca Bay 2) for Clue Four and  Clue 5 are on my Design Floor and are  in process as we speak!

I WILL GET CAUGHT UP and be ready for Clue 6 by Friday – does anyone think that I can do it?

For my Orca Bay 1 and Orca Bay 2 – both quilts have red in it – so I am busily making red string blocks….the same reds for both quilts.    I really like making these string blocks!  I have finally learned to set my stitch length to 1.4 so that the paper tears off easily.  I just slip my finger under the paper and it just flakes away (I am using both yellow pages and newspaper for my foundations.)  Since I tear the paper off immediately I have never had any trouble with ink getting on my fabric!

I JUST LOVE THESE REDS.  I think red may be my favorite color!  I especially love the deep barn reds.

Here are my cute little Orca Bay 1 Clue 5  blocks in process……..colonial blues and neutrals are my colors for Orca Bay 1.

Orca Bay 1 Clue 5 100 made 250 to go!

AND ta da …. my Orca Bay 2 Clue 5……..one made – the other 349 blocks are stringing along……blacks and beiges are my colors for Orca Bay 2.

Since I missed DESIGN WALL and ORCA LINKY THING Monday last week – I will share what I would have put on that post.  My DD wanted a cover for her tablet.

It was fun to just go into my stash of  fabric in my CLOSET STORE and pull out black and whites that I had (that is what she wanted!)  I used left over batting from quilts for the padding!

I had no pattern – I just made it up as I went along and it turned out pretty cute.  Now I want one…..but since I don’t have a tablet, I guess I don’t need a tablet cover.  LOL.

Christi's Tablet Cover

Well, since I didn’t have a tablet, I quickly made a cell phone cover from tiny scraps of fabric that I had…..it is very scrappy and still needs binding…..but I think it is cute!  The lining is a T-SHIRT (and my DH said he hoped it wasn’t one of his.)  Goodness, I DO SO HOPE THAT I DIDN’T PICK UP ONE OF HIS TO CUT UP!  LOL………..and ooops.  Thank goodness all t-shirt fabric looks alike!  🙂   I told him it was one of mine….and theoretically that was CORRECT because it was mine once it was in my drawer….right?  Actually it was an act of kindness because it had a hole in it and I wouldn’t have wanted him to have worn it in public.  🙂  OK OK – so the hole was not very big….but still……  Wait a minute….come to think of it, he GAVE me that shirt a long time ago….maybe it was because I counted (when we moved to VA)  that he had over 700 t-shirts !  WHEW….I feel much better now that I talked myself through that one!  🙂

Yes I know you will catch. I have seem your work before. Just put on your bunny ears, get some coffee and choclate and get to work. 700 t-shirts sounds like another quilt to me.
