Quilty Things in SAO’s World: Fred’s Boxy Stars and Fred’s Ts Quilt Back – AND My Birth of a Sampler Quilt is FINALLY finished!

Posted By on October 25, 2008

I am doing the HAPPY DANCE tonight because I finished my brother Fred’s Boxy Stars Quilt top (another Bonnie K. Hunter free quilt pattern on www.quiltville.com).  I actually had finished  the center of this quilt – all except the outer border while on the Massanetta Springs Country Piecemaker’s Retreat!  YEAH!  I wasn’t sure that I was going to LOVE this quilt because the colors that my brother chose (browns, blues and greys) weren’t my cup of tea….but in the end, I actually do like it!  He might get this in time for Christmas if I can get it quilted in time.

I also finished the back for the quilt today.  I had been wanting to try to make a T-shirt quilt and since my brother always wears plain white or grey t-shirts with a pocket (and yes, he puts pens in the pockets) it seemed like the RIGHT THING TO DO to use some of his t-shirts for the back of the quilt…..and so I did.
It was a lot of fun!
The blue striped star right beneath the brown dotted star is made from Fred’s son, Joey’s undershorts!
I even put FRED’s Ts in lettering at the top on the back – and my quilting buddy cat, Cuddles Tinkerbelle,  helped me.  Isn’t it sweet how cats love to test out our quilts – just to make sure they have the right cuddly feel?

There is one more interesting thing about this quilt back .. I put one sashing from one of our dad’s shirts (grey and white stripe) and one sashing from one of my mother’s blouses (grey, blue and white plaid) in the quilt back……good memory, don’t you think!?

And there is one more thing that I FINALLY FINISHED (during Tour De Quilt) – my Birth of a Sampler Quilt is finished – all bound and ready for its new home…….a secret at this point!  SHHHH

Here is a close up of the quilting.  Valerie, of A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT, did the quilting on this one….the pattern is called “Vines.”

I LOVE LOVE LOVE FINISHING THINGS…..this is on my List of Favorite Things…..I love to FINISH THINGS  almost as much as I love to START THINGS!!!!  Seriously, doesn’t it feel great to mark another UFO off your list!????  Today was certainly productive – but it was a perfect rainy day – great for sewing and catching up on my TIVO’d episodes of “HOUSE.”
