Virginia Scrappers Quilters Just Wanna Have Fun!

Posted By on December 28, 2008

Our December Sew-Day was SOOOOO much fun.  In addition to our sewing,  we had a bit of combat photo ops…..guys aren’t the ONLY ONES with cool tools!  It appears that GINGHER has a very fancy seam ripper and Carmen has one……HM…..this just might be the start of a chain reaction.  I want one!!!!  It is bright and shiny – and well, it almost makes you want to UNSEW SOMETHING!!!!  Look at Carmen, she even has a bit of a smile when she tries to look evil!

Wow - Watch out for that Ripper!

Catherine - the serious one!

Catherine – the sedate, serious one in our group, looks like she can think of some good uses for this pretty tool!
USED BLADE

USED BLADE

Ms.  J. noticed that I was pushing  and sawing a lot trying to cut my fabric and suggested that I might want to change my blade!  LOL.  DUH….good idea.  Not only was my blade ALL USED UP – but I had been using my rotary cutter with TWO BLADES IN IT.  You can’t believe how much better my rotary cutter worked with ONE GOOD BLADE.  Thanks J. for loaning me that blade….and thanks Catherine, for the unique decor to identify the used blade.  This blade will not be mistaken for a new one – that is for sure.   (Do you think we had fun, or what!)
The Red Button Locks the Blade

The Red Button Locks the Blade Now, here is something else that I learned Saturday......see that RED BUTTON on the rotary cutter? THAT LOCKS THE BLADE. Ms. J. told me this on Saturday too! My goodness - I thought it was already locked until you squeezed the black handle. SO....if there is anyone else out there who doesn't have knowledge of the function of the little red button on their rotary cutter - VOILA - now you know. You learn something new every day - especially if you have smart friends! HM....I wonder if reading directions on packaging would help too! 🙂

I always LOVE our SHOW AND TELL – look at Carmen’s Star Quilt.  Isn’t it wonderful!  I really LOVE the pattern and I LOVE the fabric.  I am going to look around for a pattern like this – I really want to make this one!

Isn’t this black and white quilt breath taking!  Margaret started working on this quilt during the Country Piecemaker’s Retreat – and it is really great to see it put together.  I find this SO AMAZING!  Look at the three-dimensional illusion.  LOVE IT.  Oh dear, I think I want to make this one too!  Will I ever be able to make everything that I want to!

I finished my Mosaic Tiles Christmas Mystery Quilt Top (a Dorothy Young Pocket Full of Mysteries Quilt) and I started on my nephew Joey’s Quilt….I am naming it JOEY’S FOREVER PLAID QUILT and it is special because it is made with some of his outgrown recycled plaid boxer shorts.  Don’t you just LOVE IT!  LOL.  The pattern is SCRAPPY STARS and can be found on KIM’S BIG QUILTING ADVENTURE blog!

Patsy had her Hello Kitty Sewing Machine with her – next time I will have to take mine so we can make our KIT CAT CLUB statement.  LOL.  And I guess I am going to have to find me some COOL GLASSES too.  Look at these lady bugs on Patsy’s frames!  Do they sell frames with plain glass? I NEED some cool glasses so I can have my picture taken with Patsy!

OH MY GOODNESS – look what else Patsy brought?  Her quilt print signed by P. BUCKLEY MOSS HERSELF!  It is just wonderful!  I really want this print too!  Since it has a quilt AND cats in it, I think I will just have to put this on my OFFICIAL WISH LIST!!!
