Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival February 2012

Posted By on February 26, 2012

Thursday I went to the Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival with the Hospitality Quilters Quilt Guild.  It is so nice to RIDE up to Hampton on the bus with friends……..spend the day looking at all of the beautiful quilts and then just sit and enjoy the ride home.

I don’t know if it was just me or what – but I REALLY REALLY thought this year’s show was great.  I enjoyed seeing the Colonial Piecemaker’s Challenge Quilts and was especially MOVED by the Alzheimer Quilt Exhibit.  Oh my, it is so emotional to look at all of the names of lives who have been claimed by this terrible disease. Once again I have to say I really appreciate Ami Simms for making the AAQI happen.  I also appreciate all of the quilters who are donating and buying these art quilts.  WE NEED TO FIND A CURE and all of the money from the sale of these quilts goes directly to research projects.

The vendors were great this year too.  I came home with a few beautiful buttons and some other necessities of life – like a DARNING FOOT for my Singer Featherweight and some new thimbles so I can TRY to avoid making holes in my fingers when I do hand quilting.  Special thanks to my buddy Catherine for helping me find these things that I could not live without.  🙂

Enjoy the pictures!!

Thank you, thank you Shirley – I was unable to attend again this year (Bronchitis) and through your pictures I do not feel quite so deprived. You saved the day – I have wanted to see the AAQI quilt in person for a long time .. only have a CD of some previous quilts. A friend is coming over today to sew, and she said she would have to bring her truck to bring all of the “needful” things she bought at the show. Show and tell is always interesting. Thanks for taking me along, Shirley. Judy C

Thanks for the pictures Shirley, I wasn’t able to go this year. I talked with Sara Parrish about it, she said she saw yours and Catherine’s works on display. How exciting!

I agree with you. My Mom and I thought it was the best quilt exhibit ever. We really enjoyed it!
