What is on my Design Floor, Monday, November 5, 2012

I have been shopping through the fabric in my closet choosing fabric for Bonnie K. Hunter’s next mystery – EASY STREET.  Even though the clues for making the mystery won’t officially start until Black Friday, we need LOTS of time to choose and then  maybe RE-CHOOSE our fabrics.  When I saw Bonnie’s colors for Easy Street, I almost went into shock!!!  The very colors she chose were the colors that I was thinking that I needed to get out of my stash…….purple, lime/apple green, gray, aqua, and neutral (black on white print for Bonnie – but just white for me!)  In fact I had pulled them out and put them together in a basket.  THIS IS FREAKY!!!!!

I also pulled fabric out of my stash for my SECOND Easy Street……I always end up making two because I love Bonnie’s designs so much.  Here are my colors for Easy Street 2.  I love the colors that I pulled for the second one…..since red appears to be my favorite color, I think I love things with red in them the best!  I also think that at one time I went “CRAZY FOR” Holly Jolly fabric and then never got around to using it.  Do you sometimes buy fabric that you like, but then just want to LOOK at it and not USE IT UP?  LOL

Then I noticed that on November 3 another mystery quilt was starting.  I HAVE TO DO THIS ONE TOO FOR THREE REASONS.  FIRST, it was offered by Quilters Club of America (and I am a member.)  SECOND, it is also a  Missouri Star Quilt Co pattern (and I am from Missouri.)  THIRD, it is called Nana’s Surprise and that is my Grandangel Leanna’s nickname (NANNA.)  So, here are the fabrics that I pulled out of my stash for Nanna’s Surprise.  These are ALSO Holly Jolly Moda fabrics that I have had in my stash for awhile.  I have already cut all of the pieces.  Also I am naming mine Nanna’s Surprise with two n’s because that is how I spell Leanna’s nickname!

Also on my design floor this week is Jeanne’s Diamonds……I am thinking this is Dorothy Young’s Christmas Mystery from 2011.  I really need to get this one finished!  After a big lull of several months when I was ONLY KNITTING, it appears that I have my quilt making mojo back in gear!  All I need to do on this one is to sew these blocks together.  I used a combination of charm packs from Michael Miller Swirly Girls, Dotty Timeless Treasures and plain old stash fabrics for this one.  It is pretty bright and cheerful!

Finally on my DESIGN FLOOR is my Catherine’s Baskets Quilt.  I need help deciding how to put this together….any ideas?  I only want to use Red and White…….. I am stuck….. the RIGHT THING just hasn’t popped into my head!

While I am waiting for the EASY STREET MYSTERY QUILT CLUE 1 from  Bonnie K. Hunter,  and after I finish other things on my design floor, I can always look at my VIRTUAL DESIGN WALL (AKA my UFO list.)

Pop on over to Judy Laquidara’s blog to see what other quilters have on their design walls this week!!  Judy has over 400 hst’s on hers…wow!

Shirley, I like all your color combinations. I’m partial to dots, too….and I will have to look up the Nanna’s Surprise.

Great fabric picks. Love Jeanne’s Diamonds, maybe I will try that pattern. Your baskets are so cute. Maybe you could try 3 strips of sashing, white, red, white, creating 9 squares as the corner stones.

  3. You have many fun projects and projects-to-be! Love your fabric choices for Easy Street and Nanna’s Surprise.

I think you love mystery quilts at least as much as I do! Love that Dorothy one!

Oh, I really like your fabrics for your Bonnie #2. I still haven’t pulled my fabrics but since she said this one is going to be easier, I think I am going to give it a try.
