ANTIQUES, ANTIQUES, and more ANTIQUES

What a glorious happy day I had today.

My grandangel, Sarah (8) and I “warmed up” for our day of antiquing with my DD and Sarah’s mom, Christi, by going to FOUR YARD SALES in Brandermill.  We didn’t find any treasures to buy,  but we did SEE a wonderful antique school desk walk out of a yard as we entered it (FOR $30!!!)  We also saw an OLD BENCH with a storage box under it leave with some very happy people as we arrived (ANOTHER $30 treasure for someone else!!)  We were SURE HAPPY for those other folks.  🙂

Before long we were off on our TREASURE HUNT for antiques.  My DD had plotted out a whole day of fun going from one ANTIQUE store to another – along the path to and including the stores in Mechanicsville.  So off we went with GRETA ANNE GARMIN (yes I named my GPS – that “SOMEONE” programmed so that my car looked like a piece of PEPPERONI PIZZA!!!!)

Our first stop was TOO MUCH FUN….here is Sarah standing in front of the store.  My DD ran into the store quickly because it embarrasses her to have me take her picture in public!  :):)  What a cute store this is!

I took a couple of pictures inside – not too many because my DD was mortified and afraid that I would get us kicked out of the store for taking pictures.  This store was impeccably decorated and so cute that I could have been in there for HOURS AND HOURS.  Since I am always a WITCH for HALLOWEEN I was tempted by buy that USED BROOMS sign – but alas, I just took the picture instead!  :):)  And speaking of Halloween, there were several people in the store wearing Halloween costumes – and we found out later that we had arrived during FALL FESTIVAL and had we worn a costume we would have received a 10% discount.
At this store Sarah got a  cute little pumpkin cat.

Here we are at the Antique Village – Sarah is standing in front of the sign and DD is hiding in the car until the camera is safely in my purse.  :):)

Did we ever have fun here!!!!
Armour's Cheese Box for my Fat Quarters

Armour

I got a WONDERFUL wooden Armour’s Cheese Box to store my Fat Quarters in!  And I just couldn’t resist these three blocks.  One is never too old for blocks.   SOME PEOPLE think I am already OLD – but I am not buying into that myth!!  :):):):)

And look what DD got…..Christi put her country willow tree on top of the kitchen cabinets!

DD also put her wooden houses standing all in a row on top of the kitchen cabinets.

The little wooden rooster basket is another of Christi’s treasures – and the snowmen family – well, we are PRETENDING that they are HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS – !!!!  They came from Ben Franklin!!!!  No, we didn’t stop shopping after we left the antique trek!

Look – I got a picture of my DD and Sarah as they entered the MECHANICSVILLE FLEA MARKET!  YEAH.  :):)

Look what I found – MY GRANDMAS (both of them) had these PIGGY COOKIE JARS.  I wanted one so badly but since they were over $300 and the sugar and creamer set was $140 – and by that time my brain didn’t even register the price of the salt and pepper shakers – but I couldn’t afford those either!  🙂  Anyway, my cousin has her mom’s set – isn’t that COOL!!

I also seriously thought about buying this HALLOWEEN TREE – but I left that there for others to enjoy – it sure did make me smile though!

The find of the day was the CAT COOKIE JAR that will live in Sarah’s room.

Look at how much this cookie jar looks like Sarah’s Cat OREO!

When my first grandangel, Brennan, was born 21 years ago I started a Cookie Jar Collection and each time I had another grandangel they got a Cookie Jar.  Into each cookie jar I put all the coins that matched the years of their births.  My children and their mates had cookie jars too….so do the math…….four kids + their four mates + 17 grandangels.  Yes, I had 25 cookie jars full of coins!  I had SO MUCH FUN doing this.

When we left CA four years ago, I gave my CA kids (4 adults and 9 grandangels) their cookie jars and money.  The other 12 cookie jars moved to VA but didn’t survive our house fire a year ago at Christmas time.
SO THIS CAT COOKIE JAR marks the beginning of my NEW Cookie Jar collection – and yes, I will start collecting coins to feed them again.

Leanna wants a RUBBER DUCKIE COOKIE JAR

I am thinking that I might need a little help with this.  Grandangel Leanna wants a RUBBER DUCKIE COOKIE JAR – she collects rubber duckies.  Where, oh where,  will I find such a thing………????  If anyone sees one, let me know!  🙂  Until then her coins are going into an empty Mr. Peanut Peanut Jar!  🙂 And speaking of Mr. Peanut Jars I saw one today for $300.00.  Can you believe it?  Just for the record the empty Mr. Peanut jar that I am putting Nanna’s coins into we just got at the store with peanuts in it………but I am thinking that maybe I ought to keep that thing for 50 years or so.  It could make someone a good little profit.  LOL
And to celebrate this WONDERFUL DAY we ate at Applebees (I had blackened tilapia) – and what would a day of antiquing be without a visit to STARBUCKS!  And….I snuck in another picture of my DD – she is inside buying the coffee and I can see her through the window wearing a white sweater!

I had a great day – because next to being with my family, quilting, drinking coffee, and eating chocolate – I love shopping for  and just looking at antiques and “antique wannabees.”
