GREAT BOOKS

Yes, some quilters DO READ!  Ever since I left California 4 years ago I have continued to read one book a month with my CALIFORNIA BOOK CLUB FRIENDS.  We are “directed” by my good friend – another SHIRLEY – who is a retired English Professor.  She still sends me her notes for the group discussions and so it is FUN for me to see her interpretation and reaction to the books.  THANK GOODNESS for her notes because having been a Professor of Psychology (we taught together for almost 20 years at the same university in CA) I never GET the literary interpretation of these classic books.

So, if anyone is interested, here is our latest GREAT BOOKS selection by Rumer Godden “In This House of Brede.”   Even though it was written and first published as recently as 1969 it is still classified as a CLASSIC.  Some say that it is “the greatest love story in the world……and while the characters are imaginary many of the episodes are based on facts that occurred in the life of an enclosed order of Benedictine Nuns.”

So here is SAO’s RECOMMENDED BOOK ……in case you want to read along with my book club friends in CA.  🙂
