Don’t you want to come too?  I am not sure I am a modern quilter – but I will be there anyway.  Maybe I will BECOME MODERNIZED!!!!!

Meet & Greet is at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a beading demo by Catherine Etter – it is bound to be great (I guarantee her work and her sense of humor too!)  You will not only learn something but you will giggle a bit as well!

Catherine made her necklace and the green scarf that I am wearing!

Everyone is Welcome and Refreshments will be served.

I took this from the Quilter’s Corner Blog Announcement – but in case you didn’t see it, I am posting it here too!

What is The Modern Quilt Guild?

The Modern Quilt Guild is a community of quilt guilds across the country. The online community of modern quilters is thriving and this guild grew out of a desire to also have us meet in person. The founding branch of the guild started in Los Angeles in October of 2009. Through blogs & the internet word spread quickly of the fun they were having and now branches have started popping up all over the country. We are a young organization just getting started with planning, organizing and sorting out all we will do as an association. We encourage anyone who’s interested to join us! Beginners are welcome.

What is Modern Quilting?

Modern quilting is a new twist on the traditional art of quilting. This may mean something as simple as using a traditional quilt block and updating it in a fresh fun new way. That includes using modern fabrics, modifying the block arrangement or even the scale of the block.   The piecing could be improvisational and wonky, or it could be very exact and measured, following a pattern or creating your own.

The quilting could be traditional stippling, clean straight lines or a very “free” have fun, quilt as you go style.

Fabrics could be upcycled vintage sheets, custom digital printed fabric, a yummy selection from one of the new modern fabric designers, or an old fabric from an ever growing stash.Modern quilting is sometimes difficult to define because in many ways the definition is as individual as the quilter – changing from quilter to quilter. In addition to reflecting the individual personality and personal style of the quilter it also reflects the current aesthetic of the day.

Modern quilting is also about the attitude and the approach that modern quilters take. It respects the amazing artistry and talent of the tradition of quilting, while allowing the quilter to challenge the “rules”. In fact, if there were one rule in modern quilting it would be that there are no rules. The concept of modern quilting is not meant to divide or segregate. It is meant to welcome new quilters, of all ages, to the world of quilting in a style that they can relate to.

In many ways, modern quilting takes us back to the basics of the early quilters, when women of the day used the colors and styles of their time to express themselves creatively.

SWEET RETREAT at Quilter’s Corner in Midlothian, VA

Posted By on April 1, 2011

Did everyone have a good APRIL FOOL’S DAY?  So far no one has tricked me…….but someone in my HOUSEHOLD was seen putting RED PEPPER on A HOMEMADE BROWNIE…..not mentioning any names…………..

OK – so on to PLEASANT AND SWEET THINGS!

Today we had a PREVIEW of the SWEET RETREAT (to be held Saturday and Sunday) at Quilter’s Corner.  Today was actually a SIT AND STITCH day and this weekend is the SWEET RETREAT – SO IN REALITY it is like a 3 day quilting retreat – and that is SWEET!  Whew…..that was a mouthful!

We had a lot of fun – lots of inspiration – lots of giggles – lots of hugging – lots of chocolate – some wonderful coffee…..and we even did some sewing!

Here are some of the highlights..

Karen modeled a SWEET t-shirt from her wonderful friend in Indonesia……….

I finished binding a quilt (Connect the Dots)……AND JUST FOR THE RECORD I HAVE DECIDED THAT THERE WILL NOT BE A FULL BINDING CHAIR THIS YEAR!

Catherine created some ASTOUNDING THINGS (but they are not pictured because they will be a SURPRISE LATER…..but believe me – WE WERE ALL AMAZED!!)

Pat shared her blue and white and red and white quilts – beautiful…….

I have included pictures of some of our SHOW AND TELLS – and there will “probably” be more in the next couple of days…:)

#1 UFO Challenge for March – Patchwork Times

Posted By on April 1, 2011

Thanks to Judy Laquidara’s 2011 UFO Challenge I am moving right along.  Here is my #1 UFO chosen by Patchwork Times……Jared Takes a Wife.  Designed by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville.com.

Judy said COMPLETED was whatever we decided it to be – so, for me, COMPLETED is the top being finished (and it is at with my long arm budy, Sara Parrish, as we speak!)

I am going to be quilting for three days – a Quilter’s Corner SWEET RETREAT – so hopefully I will get a head start on my April UFO – opps, I don’t know the chosen number yet.  I guess I will just work on SOMETHING on my UFO LIST – and I have a lot to choose from!!!!!!)

More Places to send Quilts to Japan

Posted By on March 30, 2011

I have talked to several people who want to help the people of Japan with a gift of a quilt…..here are some more websites to check out if you are interested – and some don’t have the April 30 deadline.  At least ONE will accept gently used quilts if there is no sign of wear.

The FOLLOWING is from the American Quilters Society….

Quilts for Japan AQS shares the concern of many Americans about the ongoing tragedy in Japan. Quilters are generous, and numerous efforts to send comfort via quilts are underway. We applaud these programs and encourage you to participate.
